Along with the new 2014 BMW M5 Competition Package, the M6 is also going to receive a Competition Package for 2014. The new package will be put on sale this July and was specially designed to enhance the M6's handling properties and performance.

The Competition Package starts by adding an extra 15 horsepower under the hood, so the high-revving V-8 engine now delivers a total of 575 horsepower. Once the output was increased, BMW->ke178 engineers made extensive modifications to the chassis setup. They have installed improved suspension and damping systems and retuned the stabilizer bars for added rigidity. As a result, the M6's ride has been lowered by around 10 mm (0.39 inches) and body roll is greatly reduced.

The M6 Competition Package also adds an Active M Differential with its own control unit that ensures a more direct mapping to enable firm and secure contact with the road. The car is offered with exclusively designed 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and a sport exhaust system with the customary M twin tailpipes in black chrome.

Thanks to the new Competition Package, all the driving dynamics attributes of the M6 have been increased to their highest level.

About the standard BMW M6

The standard BMW M6 is powered by a 4.4-liter V-8 engine equipped with M TwinPower Turbo technology. This engine delivers a total of 560 horsepower between 5,750 and 7,000 rpm, and 500 pound-feet of torque.

With this amount of power, the M6 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and to 124 mph in 12.6 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.

Competition

2014 Mercedes CLS 63 AMG S-Model

The CLS 63 AMG S-Model is powered by a 5.5-liter V-8 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 585 horsepower (an increase of 30 horsepower over the model equipped with the Performance Package) at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 590 pound-feet. The engine is mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

2013 Aston Martin Vantage

The Vantage is offered with two different engines: a V-8 and a V-12. The first one delivers a total of 420 horsepower in the standard version and 430 horsepower in the S version. Prices for the Vantage V8 start at $118,370, which is right around where the M6 with the Competition Package will come in at. The downside is that with the lower power comes significantly reduced performance, but the Vantage V8 will match the M6 in the twist and in luxury.

For those of you with a bigger wallet – one big enough to hold $180,600 – there is a second, more powerful alternative. This V12 version delivers a total of 510 horsepower and will take you up to an incredible top speed of 190 mph. Additionally, the Vantage V12 sprints to 60 mph in only 4.2 seconds. This means it is closer suited to match wits with the M6, though it still comes up a little short in the power department.

2014 Porsche 911 Turbo

Porsche is making us wait the new-generation 911 Turbo, but rumors suggest the model will bring tons of innovations. The most amazing feature will be the car's 3.8-liter flat-six engine that will deliver about 550 horsepower. Porsche will also offer high-end tech features, like brake regeneration and stop-start systems that will help reduce fuel consumption by about 12 percent. Plus, you can’t beat a Porsche 911 when taking on a twisty road. Unfortunately, the current 911 Turbo comes in at $137,500 – way more than the M6 – and we doubt the next-gen model will be any cheaper.
