The BMW X6 already gets rave reviews from me. But like every other car in the world, there’s always room for improvement. Fortunately, noted BMW->ke178 tuner Lumma Design->ke1485 is more than willing to step in and provide it. The company’s new X6 program is called the CLR X 6 R. By the looks of it, Lumma Design just hit another home run.

It’s a comprehensive program that really shapes the X6 into an even more imposing road presence. Lumma accomplished that by installing a ridiculous new body kit that further highlights the muscular qualities of the sporty SUV. This is the kind of vehicle conversion that has made Lumma Design into one of the most well-respected BMW tuners in the world.

Far be it for the tuning firm to limit its work on aerodynamic upgrades, Lumma Design also has an incredible engine upgrade for the X6. I’m not just talking about some middling boost either. I’m talking about a significant increase in output that puts the X6 in the neighborghood of supercars. Yep. Supercars->ke177.

Before I start trembling in excitement and lose all my words, I’d also like to point out that Lumma Design has some big plans for its CLR X 6 R program. It’s currently scheduled to appear at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show->ke228 and we know that only the very best programs show up there.

That’s really all you need to know about Lumma Design’s latest masterpiece.

BMW X6 CLR X 6 R By Lumma Design in detail

It's not often that you initially mistake a BMW X6 for an oversized sports car, but that's what happened to me when I first saw this kit. My first thought was, "wow," and that may or may not have been followed by some cursing under my breath. But Lumma Design forces you into that kind of reaction, especially when it has a body kit that really does leave you at a loss for words.

The body kit is of the wide-body variety that makes the X6's a good bit wider. In this particular case, Lumma was able to add 50 mm (1.96 inches) on each side of the SUV, thanks in large part to those incredibly enormous wheel arch enlargements.

Lumma also installed a front spoiler bumper bar to give the X6 a more balanced look. This bar also plays a functional part because it's been integrated with shaded LED double lamps and daytime running lights that feature fiber-optic light guide technology. Wow, right?

Oh, there's also a front spoiler base in case you haven't noticed it yet. Even the side skirts have ventilation ducts to aid in distributing air around the model.

On the rear, more changes are evident, including the rear apron bumper that houses four tail pipes -- two on each side of the bar. There's also a rear spoiler and a roof spoiler, two critical components that aid in improving the X6's downforce. Once you know how much added power this bad boy is packing, you'll understand the need for two spoilers at the back.

Lumma Design put serious work into the X6's 4.4-liter, V-8 engine, giving it massive turbochargers and a valve-controlled sports exhaust system that comes with its own racing catalyzers. As soon as the installation was complete, Lumma Design tinkered on the X6's ECU unit, optimizing it to unleash its full performance capabilities.

The result is an output of 590 horsepower and 623 pound-feet of torque. That's a massive jump from the 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque that the top-of-the-line X6 xDrive50i.

The standard X6 is capable of hitting 60 mph in 4.8 seconds to go with a top speed of 155 mph. With Lumma Design's CLR X 6 R program, those figures drop to a shade over four seconds to 60 mph and a 183-mph top speed.

By comparison, the 2014 BMW X6 M has an output of 555 horsepower and 501 pound-feet of torque with a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.

And that is why I love Lumma Design.

Lumma also offers a set of wheels with its X6 upgrade. These wheels measure 10-by-22 inches up front and 12-by-22 inches out back, and feature a concave design. The wheels come standard in a silver-and-matte-black finish, but buyers can opt for any color combination they like. These wheels come wrapped up in Vredestein Ultrac Vori-Tires sized 295/30R22 up front and 335/25R22 out back.
