Only a couple of months have passed since the brand new BMW 2 Series Coupe has reached U.S. dealerships, and the German manufacturer has already announced an update for the 2015 model year. And before you ask, we're not talking about visual enhancements or power upgrades. The 2 Series just got a Track Handling Package.

Basically slotted between the standard 228i and the M235i coupes->ke141, the 2 Series with Track Handling Package comes with a number of M Performance parts and larger, unique wheels that are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The package can be added on any BMW->ke178 228i Coupe, fitted with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission, built starting July 2014. Pricing for the Track Handling Package is not available yet, but the bundle should cost less than all four options ordered separately (about $2,500). Therefore, expect the 228i with Track Handling Package to start right below the $34,000 mark.

The new package will improve the vehicle's handling, suspension and grip, making it suitable for sporty driving on twisty roads and ready for that weekend track fun some drivers like to enjoy.

BMW 228i Coupe with Track Handling Package in detail

The Adaptive M Suspension not only lowers the 228i Coupe by 10 mm (0.4 inches), but also adds front axle and central sensors that gather data to assess the vehicle's damping needs at all times.

The pack also comes with Variable Sport Steering that changes steering ratio based on input received from the driver. A slower ratio provides maximum vehicle stability in a straight line, while quick ratio will allow the driver to negotiate tight turns better.

Next on the list is an M Sport Brake system that promises to deliver responsive stopping power and linear pedal feel on the road. Unlike the other two updates, the brake package will help improve the 228i's appearance through its larger brake discs (13.4-inch front, 13.6-inch rear) and Dark Blue-painted calipers with the much-coveted "M" logo.

Lastly, the vehicle's unique 18-inch wheels are paired to a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that are similar to those available on the more expensive M235i Coupe. The new rubber provides greater grip in both wet and dry conditions.
