2010 BMW CLR 500 RS2 by Lumma and TopCar

We saw the first package from the newly sprung partnership between Lumma Design and Top Car back in June when they released a photo shoot featuring the CLR X 650. That venture was not the last we were going to see of this new endeavor. so we sat back and patiently waited for the next vehicle to be presented. Enter the CLR 500 RS2 based off of the new BMW 5-Series and upgraded with both engine and aerodynamic updates.

But let’s start at the beginning. For the exterior, the tuners are offering a carbon fiber hood, wing extensions, a new front spoiler with huge air intakes, LED lights, new side skirts, a new rear spoiler, and a diffuser made by carbon fiber. Rounding off the exterior of the BMW is a new set of wheels and a matte black paint. The interior also gets lots of carbon fiber inserts. All of this makes the CLR 500 RS2 anything, but subtle.

The kit is based on a 535i, which in its standard version develops a total of 306 HP. But after a few tricks, the engine’s output has been increased to an impressive 380 HP. The price for the kit is $174,000.

UPDATE 06/20/11: New photos are up of BMW CLR 500 RS2 courtesy of the collaborative efforts between Lumma Design and TopCar. The car may have escaped our attentions by the passing of time, but trust us, everything will all come rushing back once you take a look at these newly-released photos.

2011 BMW 5-Series by Hamann

After tuning the SLS AMG, Hamann has decided to take a peek at the BMW 5-Series as well. For the moment the package is only focusing on improving the car’s aerodynamic, but an engine update will be offered in the future.

The exterior package includes a front spoiler, aggressive side skirts, a rear bumper center valence, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a trunk-mounted spoiler. The tuner is also offering a lowering kit that reduces the car’s height by 35 mm. The exterior package is finished by 20" wheels, LED daytime running light inserts, and a stainless steel four-tailpipe sport exhaust system.

The interior gets a carbon fiber package for the decorative strip 2 pieced for dashboard, inside door handle covers front & rear, decorative strip 3 pieced for center console, and steering wheel cover. There is also a set of aluminum pedals and branded floor mats. Prices will be announced at a later date.

Comparing the package for the Mercedes SLS AMG and the BMW 5-Series, we think the package for the BMW is much more well-rounded than the SLS AMG’s package. Hamann has succeeded in completing the look of the BMW and making it look that much better and more expensive. This tuning package allows the 5-series to have an even cleaner and more striking appearance.

2010 BMW 5-Series by Hartge

After AC Schnitzer got their hands dirty with the BMW 5-Series, Hartge seemed to want in on a small piece of the action. Their specialty? Why a new set of wheels, of course.

The tuner is offering a new set of Hartge Classic wheels in three different sizes: 18", 19" or 20", depending on the customer’s wishes. The wheels are wrapped up in Michelin, Pirelli, or Continental tires. The 5-Series Hartge wheels also for run-flat tires. At the front, the larger size of 255/35 ZR is used with a slightly wider size (285/30ZR) at the rear-end.

The BMW 5-Series also gets a new sport spring set that lowers the ride by 30 mm, a set of Hartge emblems for the bonnet and boot lid, aluminum pedals and foot rest, and an aluminum emblem for the center of the steering wheel.

The BMW 550i, for instance, develops a total of 407 HP, but we expect the German tuner to obtain more than that with their usual engine updates.

2004 - 2010 BMW 5-Series E60

The BMW E60 automobile platform is the basis for the 2004 5-series of automobiles. It replaced the BMW E39 for 2004. Models available at launch include the 525, 530, and 545. All models received an engine upgrade for 2006, with a 550 replacing the 545 in the fall of 2005. The exterior of the design by Chris Bangle and Adrian van Hooydonk is controversial, as is BMW’s new iDrive interface for accessing things like the radio and HVAC controls.

From the start, the fifth generation of the BMW 5 Series introduced in 2003 stood out through its impressive design and innovative technology. Once again, both the sedan and the Touring launched in 2004 set new standards in terms of active safety, driver assistance systems, and efficiency. BMW’s typical design language with convex and concave surfaces as well as flowing transitions from the front and side to the rear gave the fifth edition of the BMW 5 Series a particularly characteristic note, the interior with its clear-cut functions highlighting above all the iDrive control system featured as standard.

1998 - 2003 BMW 5-Series (E39)

The fourth generation of the BMW 5 Series made its debut at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show, offering an evolutionary development through its design of the former model with its sporting and elegant style. A particular feature at the front was the dual round headlights behind a glass cover, with the light rings for the positioning and daytime driving lights so typical of BMW being added in the year 2000.

Both the sedan and the Touring introduced in 1997 once again offered even more space within the passenger compartment. Boasting features such as a multifunction steering wheel, a navigation system, active seats and Dynamic Stability Control, the BMW 5 Series was acknowledged as a particularly outstanding high-tech representative of its segment.

In the interest of enhanced driving dynamics and safety, the body came with a significant increase in torsional stiffness over the former model, and the fourth-generation BMW 5 Series was the first large-scale production car worldwide made almost completely of light alloy. The newly developed all-aluminium power units also helped to significantly reduce the weight of the car.

The fourth generation of the BMW 5 Series once again set up a new sales record accounting for 1.47 million units sold up to the end of production in early 2004.
