BMW M4 Coupe

The official debut of the new BMW M4 Coupe is just around the corner, so we are seeing more and more of the car’s color options.

We’ve already seen the Austin Yellow Metallic and the Yas Marina Blue Metallic prototypes out testing, and now our spy photographers managed to catch an M4 Coupe testing in a sleek Sakhir Orange. Alongside this sweet hue and the others we’ve caught, customers can choose between a few other exterior paints, including: Alpine White, Mineral Grey, Black Sapphire, Silverstone and Mineral White.

In a previous release, BMW confirmed that the M4 Coupe will carry an in-line six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology that will deliver approximately 430 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Not only is this engine more powerful than the previous V-8 used in the M3 , but is also about 25 percent more fuel efficient. The model will also weight a little under 3,300 pounds, which will help it deliver outstanding driving dynamics.

We expect BMW to release the new M4 Coupe in early 2014.

BMW i8

Almost two years ago, BMW and Toyota started talking about a possible partnership and once the papers were signed, they announced the new collaboration will bring a new sports car and new hybrid technologies for both companies.

Now, new details on this collaboration have surfaced online and they only bring good news. Apparently, Toyota’s supercar will be something similar to the previous Lexus LF-A supercar , but with a hybrid powertrain.

This new supercar will explore terrains never hit by the LF-A, like a hybridized V-8 engine. Even though Toyota was the first maker to offer hybrid cars in its lineup, it never had the courage to develop a hybrid hyper-car. However, things are about to change.

Sources suggest that the company is already testing the i8’s carbon-fiber frame , meaning that the two new supercars could also borrow elements from the i8. One thing is for sure though: Toyota Toyota will be the one coming with the hybrid technology since it already developed high-performance hybrid powertrains for the V-8-powered Lexus LS 600h. BMW BMW is also offering a very successful 4.4-liter, V-8 engine in its lineup, and a hybrid system from Toyota will only make it even more fuel efficient.

Everything else on these two new supercars is pure speculation, and there are still tons of question that need to be answered, but for sure more details will follow in the upcoming months, so stay tuned!

In the latest episode of The Downshift, MotorTrend follows the guys at GSR Autosport and Formula Drift champion Mike Essa as they tune a BMW 335i with loads of go-fast parts for a big reveal and give-away at the 2013 SEMA show next week.

Concentrating mostly on the suspension and brakes, GSR Autosport added Bilstein’s new IRC suspension, which uses the latest technology and can be controlled via a smartphone. The suspension continually adapts to changing conditions, using a g-load sensor in an onboard computer, along with the g-load sensor within the smartphone. Other suspension parts were swapped out with upgraded BMW M components for greater handling.

The BMW’s engine was treated to a few additional horsepower, thanks to a cold-air intake and larger intercooler, while the stock 335i brakes were tossed in favor of huge Brembo calibers and cross-drilled rotors.

“This isn’t just a track day car,” says Michael Essa. “This is a car you can go to the track with and drive everyday.” With the adjustable suspension, the driver can put it into sport, track, street, or comfort modes depending on the situation.

The lucky winner of the raffle, David Smit, will be driving home the GSR Autosport/Bilstein BMW 335i after the companies show it off at this year’s SEMA auto show.

G-Power continues to expand its Hurricane lineup with the addition of a new tuning kit based on the BMW M3 . As with pretty much every other model in the Hurricane lineup — M5 , M6 and 1M Coupe — the new M3 Hurricane RS is all about delivering a crazy amounts of power, a nice aerodynamic kit and some interior mods.

Most of the job was made under the hood where G-Power added an SK III “Sporty Drive” supercharger system that increases the engine’s displacement from 4.0 to 4.6 liters, adds a modified crankshaft and a tailor-made cooling system. All these updates combined with a Titanium exhaust system increases the M3’s output up to a monumental 720 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

With the extra 300 horsepower under the hood, the M3 sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 9.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of more than 211 mph.

Next to the amazing job done under the hood, G-Power also offers an aggressive body kit made from carbon fiber. It includes a new front spoiler, hood and a trunk lid. Altogether, these mods drop the car’s total weight by 24 pounds.

The new M3 Hurricane RS rides on 20-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires sized 255/30ZR20 up front and 295/25ZR20 out back. A new G-POWER CLUBSPORT coil-over suspension and G-POWER-ceramic brakes on the front and rear axle were required to handle the extra power.

BMW Concept M4 Coupe

The new BMW M4 and M3 sedan go on sale early next year. The buildup to the launch has been an exciting one, partly because the car in question is a rather special automobile and partly due to the slow stream of information that has been coming out in the media. More recently, a dealer order guide was leaked revealing most of the optional packages, colors and trims.

This time, we will see a clear differentiation between the coupe and the sedan , which marks the debut of the M4.

The M3, on the other hand will retain the performance of the M4 and add four-door practicality. Looking at the history of M cars, one would expect certain performance upgrades that have always been a part of the package. The M differential, launch control system, ceramic brakes and a dual-clutch transmission would never be left out.

Apart from the usual M performance systems, BMW has added a host of personalization options, along with new illumination systems and driver interface. Three distinct packages are on the option list: Driver Assistance Package, Executive Package and Lighting Package.

Most of the driving aides, including lane departure warning, blind spot detection and exterior cameras, are part of the Driver Assistance Package. The Executive Package includes premium leather, heater steering wheel, Park Distance Control, Heads Up Display, Satellite Radio subscription, etc. For the first time, BMW will offer full -LED headlamps with automatic high beams, which is part of the Lighting Package.

A separate options list has been included wherein large diameter M Carbon Ceramic Brakes, an M Adaptive Suspension and an M Double-Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic would be fitted to the car for a few extra bucks over the base price.19-inch alloy wheels are also a part of the options list, as is a Harman/Kardon surround sound system.

BMW i3

The biggest highlight of this year’s Frankfurt motor show has to be the BMW i range, including the production i8 hybrid-electric sports car. If you look at the BMW i range, the Bavarians have taken a giant leap when it comes to putting together sustainable-energy motoring.

Until now, the Toyota Prius has managed to stand the test of time, although of late, sales have been slow despite it being Hollywood certified. Unlike the Prius, the BMW i BMW i 3 is an all-electric hatchback, which means prospective owners would have to live with the anxiety of running out of juice at the wrong time. Hence, critics would choose to disregard the i3 much like any other purely electric automobile.

Now, the U.S. market will see the BMW i3 go on sale in the latter half of 2014, but it hits showrooms next month on the other side of the Atlantic. That said, BMW is taking advance orders for the car, and you will be surprised to know, much like BMW themselves, that more folks are showing interest in the i3 than initially thought.

BMW Europe already has 8,000 pre-orders for the BMW i3, which is way beyond what the company had expected. In fact, BMW is now pondering a further increase in investment to boost production if demand for the car persists. This was confirmed by BMW’s chief financial officer during a press conference.

Are we witnessing a paradigm shift in the way we perceive electric mobility? Well, it is difficult to confirm but the BMW i range has certainly caught the attention of the people. BMW has made huge investments into this project, as some estimates claim that BMW has pumped as much as $2.7 billion into the i range. Even with this massive investment, BMW is set to make a profit on each car sold.

The morale is certainly high at BMW and riding on the success, the company has already trademarked i1 through i9. Quite obviously, the i1 would be the smallest of the i-range and the most affordable. We suspect that the i9 may be a higher-performance version of the i8 , although BMW does not wish to make an M Performance version of the i8.

BMW is busy developing the next-gen M3 , and the the M4 Coupe . In fact, BMW is so far into the development process, that the company already took the M3 out for its first commercial shoot.

Lucky us, a vigilant eye was in the right place at the right time, and managed to take some shots of the next M3 wearing a very cool Yas Marina Blue Metallic paint with a carbon-fiber roof.

Because the M3 is donning this fantastic color for its official filming session. we expect to see the production model to wear the same paint when BMW unveils it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show .

For those of you who haven’t heard. the 2015 BMW M3 will make use of a newly developed S55 3.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine with an output of 430 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This will also mark the return of the M3 sedan, since the M4 is taking over for the old M3 Coupe.

BMW X4

The striptease is on folks, and the X4 is on center stage showing off its sides, as it starts losing some camouflage. That’s right, our spy photographers caught the new BMW X4, X5 and X6 parked at the Nϋrburgring raceway, and it is wearing less camo than the last time we saw it.

Though this doesn’t reveal much about what’s going on out back — the part that really matters on this sweet-looking crossover coupe — it does give us an idea of the styling we can expect from the profile view. The side features a rising shoulder-line that seems to connect the front and rear door handles. We can also see that the lower parts of the doors have a nice scallop to them, helping add some sportiness to the upcoming addition to Bimmers lineup.

The front and rear ends are still under cover, but thanks to the earlier unveiled X4 concept, we know that this model will feature the new BMW face — to-the-grille headlights and the slightly forward-leaning kidney grille — unlike the recently shown 2 Series .

The only detail that we have on the back that the X4 will feature a large cargo hatch , like the X6.

The drivetrain lineup is still a mystery, but we assume that it will start out with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with 240 horsepower, and the top trim levels will likely carry a 3.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder that starts around 300 horsepower and moves up from there.

Everyone expected that once the new BMW 2 Series hit the market, that a more powerful M version would soon follow it. Our spy photographers caught some prototypes testing at Nürburgring, confirming the model. Now, just hours after revealing the 2 Series, BMW has lifted the veil off of the M235i.

Like the 1 Series Coupe preceded the 2 Series, the M135i and 1M preceded the M235i. Unfortunately, the M135i never available in the U.S., and the 1M Coupe was so limited that its order books closed nearly as fast as they opened.

The 1M Coupe was a mighty micro-Bimmer, with its twin-boosted, 3.0-liter, straight-six engine that tortured the concrete with 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. The M235i will use the same powertrain, but with its output slightly reduced to 322 horsepower.

The M2235i will be unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and will ht the market at $44,025.

Updated 10/25/2013: This review was updated with the official details, images and specs.

Like its name suggests, the fellas at Heat 2 Head like to put some of the coolest cars on the road against one another to see who comes out the victor. In the latest episode, the guys put two German heavyweights against each other: the the 2014 BMW M5 Competition and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Model . Jonny Lieberman and Mike Shaffer have the pleasure of putting these two muscular machines against each other, and they do a rather fine job of dissecting each car’s good and bad features.

The M5 and the E63 AMG deliver a combined 1,152 horsepower and 1,092 pound-feet of torque: 575 horsepower from the M5 and 577 horsepower from the E63 AMG. On paper, it looks like the two sedans are identical, but which of the two perform better with your derriere in the driver’s seat?

The guys first took the two sedans to the dyno gurus at K&N engineering to validate the to-the-wheel numbers. With these numbers in hand and some rough — and flawed — estimations on what the car’s put out at the crankshaft, the two were ready to hit the track.

Check out the video to see which of the two sedans comes out on top.
