A few days ago, Bugatti dropped a teaser image of what we thought would be the company's long-rumored 1,600-horsepower Bugatti SuperVeyron. However, it looks like the teaser image was in fact for a special Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition built to celebrate the company's latest record.

A Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse with Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu behind the wheel scored a new record for the company: it managed to hit a top speed of 254.04 mph. The result was achieved at the Volkswagen Group’s proving grounds in Ehra-Lessien and was officially confirmed by German organization for Technical Inspection and Certification TÜV.

The special edition Veyron Vitesse WRC will be limited to only eight units and will be priced at €1.99 million (or $2.6 million at the current exchange rates).

Updated 04/26/2013: Bugatti has unveiled a first official video for the Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition that was unveiled a few days ago in Shanghai. The video offers a few shots from the car's record-breaking exploits and offers a few more details on the supercar. Enjoy!

Exterior

The new WRC Limited Edition is distinguished from the standard Grand Sport Vitesse, thanks to a special dual-color scheme in black and orange. Everything else will be identical to the standard version: a carbon-fiber moncoque and an outer shell made entirely of carbon fiber.

And, in order to provide great stability at high-speeds, the WRC Limited Edition received a specially developed roof spoiler along with an intricately designed windbreak.

Interior

For the interior, the new WRC Edition continues with the same black and orange color scheme as seen on the exterior. There is also a special "Vitesse World Record Car" logo placed on the side sills, plus an autograph from the driver who achieved this impressive record.

Drivetrain

Under the hood, the new WRC edition keeps the same engine as the standard version: a 7.9-liter 16-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque.

The model will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds and according to the new record it can hit a top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph).

Prices

The new Bugatti Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition will be limited to only eight units. It will be priced at €1.99 million (or $2.6 million at the current exchange rates). The WRC Limited edition will make its world debut in Shanghai on April 21st.

Competition

Bugatti Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition is a model with no direct competition, thanks to its monstrous power and limited status. Still, if you want a very powerful roadster, there are a few other alternatives in the world.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster

The Aventador is powered by a 6.5-liter V-12 engine with an AWD layout that produces 700 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 509 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 rpm. The Italian supercar will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in about 3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 217 mph. It’s true, this is not quite as impressive as the Veyron, but the Aventador is a relative bargain at "only" $445,300.

Conclusion

The new Bugatti Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition is a nice way to celebrate the company's latest record, but it brings nothing above the standard model, and we believe this spicy price is a little bit too much for it. We will bring you more details once it debuts in Shanghai.
