What’s under the sheet? Bugatti to unveil new sedan in Geneva

Until recently, all we knew about Bugatti’s line-up for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show was the special edition Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, but a shot taken of Bugatti’s stand has revealed that the company will also be unveiling a new four-door sedan model.

At this point, we’re unsure whether this will be a production version or just a concept, but we’re leaning more towards a concept version of the Veyron replacement, what used to be called the Galibier. With stricter emissions regulations on the horizon and an uninspiring design, the Galibier had to undergo some extreme modifications to make the mark. With all of those changes, a new concept seems to be in order.

Bugatti’s future sports sedan is rumored to use a new platform borrowed from the Audi A8. It is also believed to be powered by either a V12 or a V10 engine - a decision made in order to reduce both consumption and CO2 emissions.

Set to go into production in 2014, the new Bugatti sedan will more than likely be limited to 300 units and have a price tag similar to the Veyron. Of course, this is all dependent on whether or not the sedan hidden under that sheet is the replacement for the Veyron, in any kind of form. We’ll find out if we are right when the covers get ripped off tomorrow at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show!

2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Super Sport

A few years ago, Bugatti had set out to create the world’s fastest convertible car. They wanted "a car that would redefine the boundaries of technology in automotive construction while appealing to the aesthetically inclined and connoisseurs of exceptional automobiles." This idea gave birth to the Veyron Grand Sport which debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2008. Then, in 2010, Bugatti revealed the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport which had already been entered into the Guinness Book of Records with an average top speed of 431 km/h (267 mph). These two Bugatti models have had a successful go around in the automotive world, but at the tail end of the Veyron’s production, Bugatti has decided to smash these two vehicles together for one last and unforgettable special edition. World, meet the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Super Sport.

Just last week, Bugatti CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer, was discussing a future special edition displaying a Super Sport package for the Veyron Grand Sport model - the Veyron’s open top model. We figured this vehicle would be seen in a couple of years, but our spy photographers have already captured the first images of the vehicle entirely free of its camouflage.

UPDATE 01/04/2012: Bugatti has confirmed that the convertible version of the Veyron Super Sport will be making its world debut in March at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

Video: Bugatti Veyron vs Nissan GT-R

A drag race between a 1001 HP supercar and a 473 HP sports car sounds like a battle between David and Goliath, but if those cars are the Bugatti Veyron and the Nissan GT-R then the difference doesn’t seem that big, right? Well, some folks headed over to the Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida to test this theory.

When watching the video, you may get the impression that the Bugatti Veyron finishes the race before the Nissan GT-R even gets off the starting line, but the end results are still rather impressive. The W16 powered Veyron manages an incredible 10.1 second run at 139 mph, while the twin turbo V6 powered GT-R posts a 10.9 second run at 125 mph.

2011 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Edition Merveilleux

Improbable as it may sound, Bugatti has somehow upstaged the already limited run Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a special edition version of the very supercar. A special edition of a special edition, you ask?

That appears to be the case with the unveiling of the latest special edition Veyron Super Sport called the "Edition Merveilleux." The car, it turns out, was commissioned specifically for a 40-year old dude in China that goes by the name of "Simon." Details behind the Veyron Super Sport Edition Merveilleux were not disclosed, although there’s a video of the car with all of Bugatti’s top brass, including CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, rolling out the one-off Veyron Super Sport. From the looks of things, Simon’s new ride features an un-painted carbon fiber exterior with matching blacked-out alloy wheels and a bright blue interior finish.

The video features some of the Bugatti execs being given some mic time to wish Simon a happy 40th birthday and if you can put two and two together, this one-off Veyron Super Sport appears to be a birthday present that the birthday boy bought for himself.

Hey, if we had that kind of money, we’d probably splurge it on a one-off model of a supercar that produces 1,200 horsepower and can hit a top speed of 268 mph. Unfortunately, it’s going to take us a couple of lifetimes to be able to sniff a Veyron, much less a one-off model of the Super Sport.

Guess we’ll just have to settle for gift certificates to Red Lobster then.

Bugatti Veyron on display inside a supermarket!

Raise your hand if you ever thought you’d see a Bugatti Veyron in a supermarket. Of all the places you can find one of the fastest cars on the planet, it sitting idly between the dairy and the fruits and vegetable sections of a French supermarket isn’t really one of them.

But there it was, glistening ever so brightly for all the supermarket goers to drool over. The photos come courtesy of Bugatticars.Over-Blog.com, who somehow found themselves at the CORA mall in Mundolsheim, France in the presence of a Bugatti Veyron in attendance as part of a marketing stunt to allow everyday folks to get up close and personal with the supercar.

Let’s just hope nobody spilled a carton of milk on the car after walking past it.

Video: Bugatti Veyron vs. Koenigsegg CCXR

First and foremost, we’d like to admit that we aren’t exactly huge fans of the Bugatti Veyron. We respect the fact that it is one of the most powerful cars in the world with a turbocharged 16 cylinder engine and 1001 HP, but a car with a price tag as high as the Veyron’s should have been a little easier on the eyes.

Koenigsegg models, on the other hand, have a wonderful combination of beauty and power wrapped up in one car. We could go into the sheer beauty of the Agera, but that’s not what we are here for. We are here to talk about the CCXR - one of the stars in this video. It features a 1018 HP V8 engine and can hit a top speed of 250 mph.

Regardless of which supercar tickles your fancy, both are present in this video, in pure white exterior paint finishes and delivering pure thrills as well.

2012 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition

Bugatti has decided to honor one of its biggest markets with three special Veyron Grand Sport models especially for the Middle East market. These three models have been revealed at the 2011 Dubai Motor Show and come in three different colors: yellow, blue, and green. The yellow Grand Sport is priced at 1.58 million euros ($2,150,000 at the current rates), while the other two are priced at 1.74 million euro ($2,373,000 at the current rates) each.

The first Veyron Grand Sport Middle East Edition combines a bright yellow body with black carbon insertions and black-tinted wheels. The interior shares the same color combination with yellow leather seats with black stitching and a black carbon console, while the dashboard, steering wheel, and gearshift are encased in black leather with yellow stitching.

The second Grand Sport model features a two tone exterior with blue carbon framed in polished, anodized aluminum. This model is highlighted with a special set of wheels in an aluminum polished and Diamond Cut two-tone finish, aluminum insertions on the front grille, and air intakes. The interior combines tangerine leather with dark blue Indigo leather or exposed blue carbon fiber.

The third - and final - special edition Veyron Grand Sport features a newly developed green carbon fiber exterior combined with polished aluminum on the rims, rear-view mirrors, and the EB-logo. The interior also combines green and silver to seal the color combination.

Rendering: 2013 Bugatti Galibier

Bugatti has already built the last model of the 300 Veyron units planned, but they have been keeping themselves busy preparing and revising the future production version of the 16C Galibier concept unveiled last year.

Named after a famous Alpine pass featured in the Tour de France, the Galibier will be one of the most powerful luxury sedans currently available on the market. It is rumored that the engine will be powered by a detuned version of the 16-cylinder engine used in the Veyron. Expect to see at least 800 HP for the new sports sedan, just enough to sprint the hyper-sedan to an impressive top speed of 217 mph. The sedan will also be equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, an advanced reactive suspension, and carbon-ceramic disc brakes.

The production version Galibier is expected to debut in 2013 and just like the Veyron, it will come with a huge price tag of somewhere around $1.5 million.

Bugatti Veyron book talks about the "story of the greatest car in the world"

You think you know everything about the Bugatti Veyron? Well, there’s a good chance that you don’t, because if you did, then you probably could have penned this new book about the almighty Veyron supercar.

Written by best-selling author, Martin Roach, the book, titled "A Quest for Perfection: The Story of the Greatest Car in the World" dives into the world of the mythical beast that is the Bugatti Veyron. According to Roach, the book ’traces the genesis of this machine through Bugatti’s long and glorious early days and then through it’s more turbulent modern era.”

Afzal Kahn, the man behind noted tuning company Project Kahn, was as part of the development of this book as Roach, clearly illustrating his fanatical obsession with the Veyron supercar. Together, the two managed to take a never-before-seen look into the world of Bugatti, one that includes unprecedented access to the key people behind the Veyron supercar, as well as trips to the top secret Bugatti Research & Development workshop in Germany, touring the factory and chateau in France where these stunning cars are hand-built.

The book is already available, and if you’re as interested as we are in reading the history of the Bugatti Veyron, then this book is a definite must-buy.

Veyron Owner thinks he’s proven Bugattis aren’t expensive to maintain

Expensive cars accumulate very expensive maintenance bills, but not everything about them has to empty your wallet of its hard earned cash. One Bugatti owner in Hallandale, Fl. has proven this theory by taking a trip to the local car wash on US1 to get his Veyron sparkling clean.

While some may consider this automotive blasphemy, others - like our penny-pinching Veyron owner - no doubt believe this is a great way to cut down on those ridiculous maintenance fees associated with the $2 million ride. A routine service for the Veyron runs up to around £13,000, which is around $21,000 based on current exchange rates. In the event that you need to replace the specialized rubber on the Veyron, a set will cost you £25,000 ($40,500). Oh, and ’as per Bugatti’s recommendation’, you should change your tires after every 2,500 miles. It’s also common procedure for a car like the Veyron to continuously check for cracks on the wheels of the supercar, a practice that will set you back an extra £7,200 ($11,500). All in all, a year’s worth of maintenance could set owners back about $300,000!

Which brings us back to our $30 car wash guy. This guy is definitely not shelling out $30,000 for his Veyron to get cleaned appropriately, but is having your local car wash rub down your supercar with inexperienced hands a smart move? Probably not.

This poor little record-breaking supercar probably never saw it coming.
