  Bugatti is a French car manufacturer and was founded in 1909. The company was known for its engineering in automobiles and for the artistic designs with the Type 57SC Atlantic being a fine example. The manufacturer has also has a lot of success on the race track and won the Monaco GP in 1930 for the first time. The manufacturer went into financial trouble after the death of its owner and after the WWII and only after it was bought by Volkswagen did it come back into prominence.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport

The Guinness Book of World Records has done an about-face and has reinstated the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s top speed time as the official world record.

Wait, what?

In an embarrassing reversal that no one saw coming, Guinness decided to reinstate the Veyron Super Sport’s 267.8 mph top speed record after further investigation revealed that the deactivated speed limiter, the apparent reason for all this trouble, did not fundamentally alter the design and engine of the Veyron Super Sport.

This after it announced that the deactivated speed limited was against official guidelines, which did not qualify the supercar as a "production car.”

Well, make up your mind, Guinness...

There’s apparently a lack of understanding of what constitutes the rules over at Guinness. That, or they have a pretty trigger-happy decision-making board that did not err on the side of meticulous investigation before they stripped the Veyron Super Sport of the top speed record.

But we don’t think Bugatti is fretting this a little bit. It’s been an eventful week for them and they’ve accrued enough media mileage to last them a while.

From the record stripping, to the release of the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport WRC, to the reinstatement of the aforementioned record, you can’t say that Bugatti didn’t earn the media attention it’s received in the past week.

And at the end of the day, it still owns the top speed record. All’s well that ends well, apparently.

Yesterday, Bugatti unveiled the special-edition Veyron Vitesse WRC Limited Edition to celebrate its latest record: a top speed of 408.84 km/h (254.04 mph) achieved with a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse with Chinese racecar driver Anthony Liu behind the wheel.

Today, British magazine EVO released the first video featuring Bugatti’s new record. Harry Metcalfe took a trip to Ehra-Lessien, Germany to be a witness of this major event. Luckily for us he was kind enough to share the event with us, before Bugatti will decide to finally offer an official video of its new record.

In this video, he mentions the Veyron SuperSport’s “world record” top speed; well, that has since been stricken from the Guinness Book due to its disabled speed limiter. We can only hope that the WRC Limited Edition will also have its limiter disabled from the factory, as from what Metcalfe tells us, the record-setting model does, in fact, have its limiter off. If not, we can surely expect to see the same drama as unfolded earlier in the week.

As a plus, at the end of the video, Harry Metcalfe gets behind the wheel of the new Veyron Vitesse WRC and pushes it to the limit. Our advice to you is to be patient and watch the full 10 minutes video, it totally worth it!

Bugatti may have officially lost the fastest production car record, but it certainly appears that the French automaker isn’t too bummed out about it.

Nope, Bugatti’s got more important things to think about these days and just today, it gave us an idea of what important things it’s up to with the release of a mysterious teaser on its Facebook page.

The automaker’s keeping mum on details, opting only to say that "It’s almost time for us to share the latest example of exceptional Bugatti performance".

Immediately, we thought about the 1,600-horsepower Bugatti SuperVeyron , a vehicle that first made headlines last year and has since become one of the most eagerly anticipated supercar debuts of the year.

Bugatti’s message on the social media site also included a little piece of nugget, telling us to "keep a close eye on Facebook over the next few days".

Something tells us that we’re all in for a pretty interesting week if Bugatti lives up to its word of showing us the "latest example of exceptional Bugatti performance".

The third - and last - special edition developed by Bugatti for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is the 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Fire Finch Bronze Carbon . As its name suggest, this special edition is painted in a nice "Fire Finch" tone - a color composition called "Ying & Yang" – used here for the first time.

Bronze-colored carbon was used for the car’s rear, the cowlings, the roof frame and on the A-pillars. A complementary brown "Fire Finch" has been used for the side panels, the rear air intake grilles and the exterior mirrors. The ventilation grilles and brake calipers are offered in a neutral black.

For the interior, Bugatti combined a powerful orange ("Burnt Orange") and a dark brown ("Coffee"). The steering wheel spokes, steering wheel center and 12 o’clock ring are in a polished-aluminum finish. To help set the interior off, Bugatti used Orange highlight stitching on the Coffee-colored leather center tunnel.

This one-off edition will be priced at €1.95 million - around $2.5 million at the current exchange rates.

While makers like Ferrari and Lamborghini have unveiled their latest creations at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Bugatti decided to only offer three one-off editions based on the current roadsters offered by the company.

The first one is a 16.4 Grand Sport Green Carbon - a model built to pay tribute to the Bugatti Royale built between 1926 and 1933.

On this special edition, the complete rear end, the engine cowlings, the roof trim strips, the door sills, the lower area of the front apron and the front bonnet are all painted in Green Carbon, while all the rest of the body features a very cool paint finish.

The car’s front wings and exterior mirror housings are in polished aluminum, while the 20-inch wheels feature a combination of green and silver two-tone Diamond Cut finish. The model also featues the motif of a dancing elephant - reminiscent of the Art Deco bonnet figure designed by Rembrandt Bugatti.

The same green-silver theme continues on the interior, where Bugatti combined green leather with silver contrast seams on the seats, the steering wheel rim and the gear lever.

This one-off Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Green Carbon is priced at €1.92 million (about $2.5 million at the current exchange rates).

Bugatti came to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with two specially designed Grand Sport Vitesses that want to prove the almost infinite range of exterior themes offered by Bugatti. The first Vitesse to be displayed at the show features a very cool Black Carbon treatment.

The model is distinguished by enlarged air intakes on each side of the radiator grille, lower air slit running back along the side to the wheel housings, a double diffuser and centrally positioned twin tailpipe. The supercar’s body is covered in black carbon and is combined with the brake calipers and the exterior mirror housings offered in blue along with the roof trim and the grille in polished aluminum.

For the interior, Bugatti is using a combination of Beluga Black and brown Gaucho leather. The cockpit, the three-spoke wheel and the center tunnel feature blue stitching, while carbon insertions are used on the door inserts, in the center console extension, on the iPad stowage surround, on the belt exit point trims on the seats and on a cover carrying the EB logo.

This one-off Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse Black Carbon is priced at €2.02 million (about $2,6 million at the current exchange rates).

With 105 Veyron GrandSports left to be built, a renewed contract makes it clear that the Bugatti Veyron GrandSport will continue until the end of 2014.

The production of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was completed nearly a year ago, but the GrandSport is left to be sold-out. Since Bugatti’s contract with renowned transmission supplier Ricardo had recently ended, Bugatti had no other choice but to renew its contract with Ricardo in order to get the remaining 105 examples built. It is stipulated that the new contract will expire at end of2014. Once the contract runs out, no one really knows what will happen.

So, for those who would like to buy a new Bugatti — hardly anybody considering its $1.9 million price tag – you only have the choice of the open-top GrandSport and GrandSport Vitesse. With 105 examples left on the shelves, you have plenty of time to consider you purchase.

The Bugatti Veyron GrandSport is powered by an 8.0-liter W-16 engine that develops a total of 1,001 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Unlike the 252 mph hitting Veyron 16.4, the GrandSport is limited to 217 mph, which is still stratospheric for an open-top for a car.

One-off Bugatti Veyrons are nothing new in today’s world. Despite their relative commonplace, they are still among the most talked about one-off models in the world.

At the upcoming Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 event, the French automaker unveiled its latest one-off Veyron that was personally designed by renowned French artist Bernar Venet. Bugatti actually commissioned Venet to create the design of the one-off Veyron Grand Sport based on his artistic interpretation.

We’re big fans of Venet, particularly his Arcs sculptures. The man is considered one of the finest at his craft and works, and has received many honors, including the title of Chevalier de La Legion d’Honneur. So when Bugatti commissioned Venet to design a one-off Veyron Grand Sport, we anxiously waited to see what he’d come up with.

The result is, well, wow.

Not surprisingly, Venet put some touches of numbers, scientific formulas and mathematical equations on the car’s exterior and interior, an allusion to his acclaimed mathematical paintings, which are currently on exhibit at the Art Plural Gallery in Sin Sin gapore. Equally interesting is the fact that these equations and formulas are the same ones used by Bugatti engineers when they were developing the Veyron. Another signature Venet influence on the Veyron is the rusted-metal finish applied to the supercar, which when you really look at it, makes for a pretty sexy two-tone color.

The Venet-designed Veyron Grand Sport will be on exhibit at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach 2012 from December 6 to 9, 2012.

When you hear about Achim Anscheidt - Bugatti Head of Design - you would probably expect him to drive a supercar like the Bugatti Veyron , right? Nope, he isn’t that kind of guy. Instead he opted for something a little bit more classic, and a lot cooler: a 1981 Porsche 911 .

This is no normal old 1981 Porsche 911 either, oh no. This one is completely gutted and all of the removable panels – trunk, bonnet, doors, front fenders, etc. – are all made from Kevlar. Yeah, you read that right: Kevlar! He also cleaned up the engine bay a little bit and replaced the windows with plastic, which brings the 911’s weight down to a svelte 820 kg (1,807 pounds).

Unfortunately, Anscheidt didn’t let us in on the 911’s performance numbers, but we’ll just assume it’s pretty dang fast.

After watching the video let us know in the comments section below what do you think about his choice: would you drive the 1981 911 or rather take the Veyron?

At this point, we don’t know what’s going on with the Bugatti Galibier . Last we heard, it was being significantly altered because the higher-ups at Bugatti didn’t like its design, but that’s not important right now.

What’s important now is Bugatti’s recently announced 1,600-horsepower SuperVeyron – a car that first made headlines a few weeks ago when the French automaker released some information on it. The latest to come out about the SuperVeyron is that it will make its world debut next year at the 2013 IAA Motor Show.

Jens Schulenburg, Bugatti’s chief vehicle engineer, recently told Autocar about the challenges of building what is essentially the ultimate Veyron. “The big challenge will be reducing weight, Schulenburg said. "We are looking at some incredible technologies, such as wheels made entirely from carbon fiber. We’re considering hybrids, too.”

Bugatti is looking at shaving almost 550 pounds off of the Veyron Super Sport’s body while developing the SuperVeyron. We also expect Bugatti to bore out its existing 8.0-liter W-16 engine to a 9.6-liter displacement, which will help bump the SuperVeyron’s output to 1,600 horsepower. These extra ponies will net the newest Veyron a 1.8-second 0-to-60 mph time and a top speed that’s expected to reach 288 mph.

Should the SuperVeyron live up to the growing hype it’s been generating, a lot of people could end up forgetting that the Galibier even exists. At least until Bugatti decides to release that model.
