2013 Bugatti 16C Galibier
All we’ve heard about the Bugatti Galibier so far has been concept details and speculation, but things are about to turn around for all the fans wishing the company would take the next big step. Volkswagen has offered Bugatti the backing they need for a 16C Galibier sedan. Apparently, Wolfgang Duerheimer, the man who recently took over as head of Bugatti and Bentley, was the main proponent behind pushing Volkswagen to give them a break. The Galibier, a 1000 HP sedan, was first shown as a concept in 2010 and when put into production, will cost about $1.4 million. It will use a 16-cylinder engine that can run on both biofuel and gasoline, and will bring back the dual-clutch gearbox. Production will require facilities in Molsheim, France, to be refitted, which may push back deliveries until 2013 or 2014. The official name for the production model hasn’t been provided yet, but Bugatti’s decision to offer a production version sedan should come as no surprise considering Lamborghini has already confirmed the production version of the Estoque and Ferrari has brought out the FF. These competitors by no means come close to the power behind the Bugatti, but they do illustrate the luxury automakers that are taking advantage of the upswing the economy is making by expanding their lineups. Looks like Bugatti is joining in on the party that is the 2012 Beijing Auto Show. In what could be one of the busiest Beijing Auto Shows in recent memory, the French automaker has decided that attending the show isn’t enough anymore. So they decided to steal it with the presentation of a one-off Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport that they have christened as "Wei Long." Developed in collaboration with Konigliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin, the Veyron Grand Sport Wei Long is Bugatti’s version of paying homage to the Year of the Dragon. Everybody’s doing it anyway, right? As far as the car itself is concerned, the Wei Long comes equipped with unique porcelain dragon relief sections on both the exterior and interior. It’s similar to the set-up of the Veyron L’Or Blanc, except that this model was developed primarily for the deep pockets of the Chinese. The exterior is finished in White Polish and greatly complements the Carmine Red interior. The headrests and hand-crafted silk floor mats have been embossed with the Chinese ’Dragon’ character to go with a special centerpiece with an elaborately detailed white porcelain dragon relief. Just like all the one-off Veyron Grand Sport models in the world, the Wei Long is powered by an 8.0-liter W16 engine that develops a total of 1,001 horsepower and 1,250 Nm of torque. Those figures are good enough to post a 0-60 mph time of just 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 252 mph. And just like all those other one-off models, the Veyron Grand Sport isn’t for the weak of pockets. For the privilege of owning this porcelain-dressed supercar, you’re going to need to shell out €1.58 million, which is a smudge over $2 million based on current exchange rates.

National Geographic is offering a pretty impressive full documentary that includes everything there is to know starting with the design and the development and up to interviews with the guys who made the car. We just hope this documentary will help you learn everything there is to know about one of the most powerful supercars in the world. And, for those of you who still do not know, the Bugatti Veyron is powered by a 8.0-liter W16 engine that delivers an amazing 1001 HP and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, while top speed goes up to an impressive 253 mph. A major auto show isn’t complete these days without the presence of the supremest of all supreme super cars: the Bugatti Veyron. So it’s no surprise that Bugatti has taken to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show to introduce yet another special iteration of the Veyron Grand Sport, this time called the Grand Sport Vitesse. In case you’re wondering, "Vitesse" translates to "speed" in our language. Suffice to say, there’s really just one description apt for the Grand Sport Vitesse: it’s the fastest serially produced convertible in history. It’s hard to believe Bugatti can keep raising the ante to ridiculous heights with the Veyron, but they always seem to get the job done. "Once again our engineers worked hard to demonstrate that Bugatti is able to constantly redefine the boundaries of what is technically feasible," said. Bugatti President Wolfgang Dürheimer. "We gave our all to transfer the achievements of the Super Sport over to the Grand Sport, thereby turning open-top driving itself into an extraordinary experience at high speed." Judging from what they’ve created, we’re guessing that Bugatti is quite pleased with how the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse turned out. Gemballa Racing’s McLaren MP4-12C GT3 had its racing baptismal at the German ADAC GT Masters Series and as a way of paying tribute to their very first racing machines, Gemballa decided to commission the help of the fine folks over at Cam Shaft for a special dress up on a Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir. The unique wrap made by Cam Shaft gave the Veyron Sang Noir a pretty intense look, combining Gemballa’s noted blue color trim with glow-in-the-dark lightning graphics and matching brand logos plastered all around the car. The specially-wrapped Veyron Sang Noir doesn’t carry any performance modifications because the car only served the purpose of being a promo vehicle for the Gemballa’s new racing team. Whether they have plans of building a Veyron race car in the future, though, is a totally different subject... Until recently, all we knew about Bugatti’s line-up for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show was the special edition Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, but a shot taken of Bugatti’s stand has revealed that the company will also be unveiling a new four-door sedan model. At this point, we’re unsure whether this will be a production version or just a concept, but we’re leaning more towards a concept version of the Veyron replacement, what used to be called the Galibier. With stricter emissions regulations on the horizon and an uninspiring design, the Galibier had to undergo some extreme modifications to make the mark. With all of those changes, a new concept seems to be in order. Bugatti’s future sports sedan is rumored to use a new platform borrowed from the Audi A8. It is also believed to be powered by either a V12 or a V10 engine - a decision made in order to reduce both consumption and CO2 emissions. Set to go into production in 2014, the new Bugatti sedan will more than likely be limited to 300 units and have a price tag similar to the Veyron. Of course, this is all dependent on whether or not the sedan hidden under that sheet is the replacement for the Veyron, in any kind of form. A few years ago, Bugatti had set out to create the world’s fastest convertible car. They wanted "a car that would redefine the boundaries of technology in automotive construction while appealing to the aesthetically inclined and connoisseurs of exceptional automobiles." This idea gave birth to the Veyron Grand Sport which debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2008. Then, in 2010, Bugatti revealed the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport which had already been entered into the Guinness Book of Records with an average top speed of 431 km/h (267 mph). These two Bugatti models have had a successful go around in the automotive world, but at the tail end of the Veyron’s production, Bugatti has decided to smash these two vehicles together for one last and unforgettable special edition. World, meet the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Super Sport. Just last week, Bugatti CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer, was discussing a future special edition displaying a Super Sport package for the Veyron Grand Sport model - the Veyron’s open top model. We figured this vehicle would be seen in a couple of years, but our spy photographers have already captured the first images of the vehicle entirely free of its camouflage. A drag race between a 1001 HP supercar and a 473 HP sports car sounds like a battle between David and Goliath, but if those cars are the Bugatti Veyron and the Nissan GT-R then the difference doesn’t seem that big, right? Well, some folks headed over to the Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida to test this theory. When watching the video, you may get the impression that the Bugatti Veyron finishes the race before the Nissan GT-R even gets off the starting line, but the end results are still rather impressive. The W16 powered Veyron manages an incredible 10.1 second run at 139 mph, while the twin turbo V6 powered GT-R posts a 10.9 second run at 125 mph. Enjoy the video! Improbable as it may sound, Bugatti has somehow upstaged the already limited run Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a special edition version of the very supercar. A special edition of a special edition, you ask? That appears to be the case with the unveiling of the latest special edition Veyron Super Sport called the "Edition Merveilleux." The car, it turns out, was commissioned specifically for a 40-year old dude in China that goes by the name of "Simon." Details behind the Veyron Super Sport Edition Merveilleux were not disclosed, although there’s a video of the car with all of Bugatti’s top brass, including CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, rolling out the one-off Veyron Super Sport. From the looks of things, Simon’s new ride features an un-painted carbon fiber exterior with matching blacked-out alloy wheels and a bright blue interior finish. The video features some of the Bugatti execs being given some mic time to wish Simon a happy 40th birthday and if you can put two and two together, this one-off Veyron Super Sport appears to be a birthday present that the birthday boy bought for himself. Hey, if we had that kind of money, we’d probably splurge it on a one-off model of a supercar that produces 1,200 horsepower and can hit a top speed of 268 mph. Unfortunately, it’s going to take us a couple of lifetimes to be able to sniff a Veyron, much less a one-off model of the Super Sport. Raise your hand if you ever thought you’d see a Bugatti Veyron in a supermarket. Of all the places you can find one of the fastest cars on the planet, it sitting idly between the dairy and the fruits and vegetable sections of a French supermarket isn’t really one of them. But there it was, glistening ever so brightly for all the supermarket goers to drool over.
