There once was a time when the illustrious Bugatti Veyron enjoyed the title of being the fastest and most exotic car on the road with its downforce inducing curves that make the 1001 HP quad turbocharged 16 cylinder powered super car able to reach a 253 MPH top speed. However being number 1 also makes you a bit of a target for every eager tuner looking to make a name for themselves, and although there are no cars that can do everything like the Veyron, but there are a handful that are getting close. Perhaps in a preemptive move, the French automaker is planning something special for their centennial anniversary.
This recent spy shot may clue us in a bit more as to what exactly Bugatti is thinking about, rumors say that this Veyron+ is a new variant that will deliver around 1200 HP and will be capable of hitting around 260 MPH on the speedo. Along with a slight bump in output the new super car should also be a bit lighter, by about 300 pounds which will not only make it more efficient at speed, but bring the 2.5 second 0 to 60 MPH time down a few tenths. Now this is mostly speculation, and of course the factory hasn’t made any official comments about a special edition upgraded Veyron, however we couldn’t help but continue to ponder what the new car will be called. Possible names include Veyron GT and Veyron Grand Prix, but we are a pit partial to Veyron+ (plus). Hopefully we will find out by the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
The earlier report we had of the man who drove his Bugatti Veyron into a lagoon has been made a little clearer after a video was taken of the accident by a civilian who happened to be in the area when the ‘accidental dive’ took place.
Also, according to the Galveston Daily News, the identity of the man behind the wheel of the Veyron was one Andy Lee House, a man who, ironically, owns Performance Auto Sales, a shop that specializes in restoring exotic cars.
We can’t argue against the irony in this story, other than the fact that, contrary to previous reports, there were no pelicans in sight during the whole ordeal.
Suffice to say, it was just a case of a driver going too fast for his – and his cars – own good. Fortunately, he won’t have too much trouble looking for a place that can piece his Veyron back in tip-top shape.
No other exotic car crash has gathered mainstream attention quite like the Bugatti Veyron’s splash into a lagoon in Texas, and rightfully so, considering that, a)it’s a Veyron, and b) the accident was too unbelievable to ignore.
Let’s backtrack for a second and review what went down. Last week, a man named Alan House was driving along Galveston, Texas in his Veyron when he inexplicably went off of the road and plunged straight into a nearby lagoon. The whole incident was captured by video and has become quite an Internet sensation in its own right.
And now, photos of the recently-plucked-from-the-water Veyron has shown up and judging from the look of things, Mr. House is in for a real wallet beating to get his Veyron to run again.
If you suddenly faint, vomit, or have heart palpitations after seeing this video, then we won’t blame you.
That’s a lake right there in the photo and a car that happens to be submerged right smack in the middle. Care to venture a guess as to what car that is?
If you don’t know, then allow us to be the bearer of bad news. That’s a Bugatti Veyron - all $1.6 million dollars of it.
You’re probably wondering how the hell it ended up in the middle of the lake so lt us recount the story for you. The driver of the Veyron was cruising along Galveston, Texas and was talking on his phone when a pelican – of all things! – flew low enough to distract the driver, sending him swerving into the side of the road before his tire hit a mud patch and all the way into the middle of the lagoon.
From what we’ve gathered, the said Veyron is one of only 15 in the entire United States so you can imagine the dismay all of us are feeling right now. If it wasn’t enough that a 1000 horsepower supercar takes a dive into a lagoon, it just had to be a pelican that caused the whole thing.
The driver, of course, doesn’t escape blame too. How in God’s green earth can you be so reckless with a car that’s worth more than our entire bank accounts!
Bugatti revealed the first promotional video of the 16C Galibier sedan unveiled in September, a first preview of a future sedan, that according to the company will become "the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world."
The Galibier’s design is based on the Bugatti Type 35, a model that also inspired the 1001 HP Bugatti Veyron super car. The concept is powered by a 8.0 Liter 16 cylinder engine boosted with a two stage supercharging system.
The Bugatti 16C Galibier will make its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Considering Bob Lutz’s recent challenge to take on any and all four door sports car competitors with a Cadillac CTS-V, it got us thinking about what four wheeled machine would be the perfect choice to bring to the Monticello Motor Club on October 29. At first we figured that a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution with its Audi R8 super car like handling might be able to keep up with the supercharged Cadillac sedan, but whereas the EVO X is only packing about 300 HP, the CTS-V is putting down a total of 556 HP. The next obvious choice would be a twin turbocharged V8 powered Porsche Panamera, however those aren’t scheduled to arrive until next year.
That is when it hit us, what would be better than a 1000 HP all wheel drive Bugatti super car to take on the bad boy from Cadillac. While this rendering displays a GT spec Galiber ready for the grid at Le Mans with its oversized rear wing and quad turbocharged 16 cylinder engine poking through the openings in the hood, the standard Bugatti super sedan will make use of the same 8.0 Liter W16 that powers its big brother the Veyron. Although it might be harder to get your hands on a Galiber than Naomi Campbell’s backside, it just might be the perfect street legal four door to take on GM’s Vice Chairman, that is as long as the straightaways are long enough.
A while ago Top Speed reported about what is worth to be #1 when Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri shelled out $14.3 Million for the right to bear the a very exclusive number plate. Now the oil rich nations of the middle east have become a mecca for over the top indulgence and excess, especially when it comes to their automobiles, so the exclusivity of being #1 is a very esteemed honor.
Now the Bugatti Veyron is by its nature a very expensive car, so you can only imagine what it is worth when wearing an equally unique F1 number plate. It turns out that the F1 tag is almost as good as being number one. So you can only imagine the crowds that the very rare and exotic F1 Veyron would attract. That is exactly what the promoters of the upcoming MPH Show at London’s Earls Court from November 5th through the 8th. The very rare Bugatti’s owner, Afzal Kahn, was kind enough to offer up one of his prized possessions for the display. So if you happen to be in the area, then you can stop by to not only see the F1 Bugatti Veyron, but a few other high speed machines like the Ferrari FXX, Lamborghini GT600, Pagani Zonda R and the ultra exotic GT by Citroen as well.
When Bugatti revealed the 16 C Galibier concept in September it was impossible not to have notice its luxurious interior. On the dashjboard you might have noticed a watch. And talking about Bugatti of course is not an ordinary one. It is made by Parmigiani who has a long history in making Bugatti watches (one of them, the Type 370 Bugatti watch got all the attention in 2004).
So, what can you do with the Bugatti Tourbillon watch? Mount it in Galibier’s dashboard, attach to a wrist strap, function as a pocket watch, and also be docked in a desk clock unit.
Yes, you read correct, the watch can be removed from the car dashboard and transformed into a pocket watch or a wrist one. What kind of makes it convertible, no?
Parmigiani revealed no other details on the watch, but the fact it comes with a car like Bugatti Galibier 16C says it all, no?
In the event that the Bugatti 16C Galibier concept goes into production – which a lot of people seem to believe – don’t expect it to come cheap.
And by cheap, we mean less than a million dollars.
As the successor to the omniscient Veyron, the 16C Galibier is shaping up to become a worthy ‘replacement’ to Bugatti’s record-breaking super car. Though not as powerful as its 1001 horsepowered predecessor, the 16C Galibier does adopt a few things from the Veyron, particularly it’s ginormous 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine.
Despite the same engine powering the two supercars, the Galibier is expected to come short of the Veyron’s record-setting speed, mainly because the former is a little bit bulkier than the latter and, at the same time, will only carry with it a relatively pedestrian ‘800 horsepower engine.
As a result, the Galibier is expected to reach speeds of ‘only’ 220 mph, compared to the 250+ the Veyron has been known to achieve.
Nevertheless, the Galibier is still expected to fetch quite a hefty price. According to Autocar, in the likelihood that Bugatti’s newest toy reaches production in 2013, expect it to be sold for around £900,000 – that’s a mind-numbing $1.3 million in the US.
This past March at the Geneva Motor Show, the Swedish super car company Keonigsegg revealed the NLV Quant electric sedan. Well now it is the exotic Italian coachbuilder Bugatti’s turn, and Ettore’s original brand has done quite an impressive job on the all new Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept that was unveiled this past weekend in Molsheim. According to the automaker the upcoming super car will become "the most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world."
The Galibier’s design is based on the Bugatti Type 35, a model that also inspired the 1001 HP Bugatti Veyron super car. The 16 C concept features the traditional Bugatti radiator complimented by big round LED lit headlamps and the clamshell running the length of the vehicle which became synonymous with the brand identity under Jean Bugatti in the Type 57.
Under the bonnet, the 16 C concept can stand up to the almighty Veyron, becasue Bugatti has placed a 8.0 Liter 16 cylinder engine boosted with a two stage supercharging system, that features an ethanol mode. The Galiber was designed with smooth lines that will allow it to slipstream past the competition should it ever go into production. The concept also features a four wheel drive, a purpose built performance suspension and very exotic ceramic brakes to ensure that the 16 C Galiber can handle the speeds the pair of blowers up front are going to generate.
The interior of the 16 C Galiber concept reflects the pure and simple design of the exterior, because after all there is something beautiful about being basic. The dash been reduced to include only the essential. Two centrally located dials keep even the rear passengers up to speed about the details of their experience. There is even an Aston Martin rivaling timepiece that has been integrated into the super car concept. Parmigiani, the Swiss maker of fine watches, created the removable Reverso Tourbillon clock for the Galibier, which may be worn on the wrist thanks to a cleverly designed leather strap.
