While Cadillac may be at the top of the heap as far as General Motors domestic sales are concerned, the Buick brand is surprisingly popular in a few far off markets. Keeping their other customers happy the other upscale arm of GM has just unveiled the all new Excelle XT at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The XT is an interesting vehicle due to its coupe like profile despite being a five door wagon. The new car is slated to go on sale in China in 2010 and is basically an Asian iteration of the European Opel Astra. The Excelle XT will be offered with a choice of three engines. The top of the line model will be powered by a 1.6 Liter turbocharged four cylinder gasoline engine cranking out 180 HP. Aside from the boosted offering, there will also be a naturally aspirated version with the same displacement making 116 HP and a slightly larger 1.8 Liter DOHC inline four with lots of high tech working parts to manipulate the cam profiles and produce an impressive and at the same time efficient 138 HP. No matter which internal combustion option you choose, all engines will be mated to a fuel efficient six speed automatic transmission, putting the driver at ease when they are behind the wheel. Press release after the jump. Press release Shanghai GM introduced the new Buick Excelle XT five-door coupé-like sedan today at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The premium compact hatchback was designed, engineered and executed to set a new standard for performance and refinement in its class. It goes on sale across China in 2010. “The Excelle XT is Buick’s first coupé-like sedan in China that is based on GM’s all-new front-wheel-drive compact vehicle architecture,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “Developed as a collaborative effort by GM’s global team, the model was tailored for the domestic market by GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) automotive engineering and design facility in Shanghai.” The Excelle XT incorporates Buick’s new design language and sets a new visual standard for its class, both inside and out. Stylish ExteriorInspired by the Buick Riviera concept vehicle, the new Excelle XT’s assertive, self-confident exterior is enabled by dynamic lines combined with sophisticated sculptural surfaces. The overall execution clearly speaks to Buick’s new design language, yet provides an expression that is appropriate for the compact segment. With a bold new “face” and a hood line that culminates in narrow three-dimensional-effect headlamp units, the Excelle XT looks dynamic and purposeful without being aggressive or brash. Roomy, Fashionable InteriorThe free-flowing forms and contours exhibited on the outside are carried forward inside. The interior is clearly up to Buick’s premium standards, with crafted flowing lines, low-gloss surfaces, and premium appointments throughout. The Excelle XT offers a host of innovations and technologies. They include a class-leading choice of infotainment and communication systems, including three audio packages and two on-board navigation systems; Bluetooth wireless connectivity and USB and personal device connectivity; a tire pressure monitoring system; dual-zone electronic climate control; heated front seats; and electronic parking assist. Choice of Efficient PowertrainsExcelle XT buyers have a choice of three lightweight powertrains that offer high specific power output, low fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions:
A six-speed automatic transmission with sporty feature is standard in all models. Excellent Ride and HandlingThe Excelle XT has a fun-to-drive character with high levels of steering precision and ride comfort. The speed-sensitive rack and pinion steering system is electrically powered to save fuel. The electric motor is mounted on the steering rack rather than at the base of the steering column to give improved driver feel when turning the steering wheel. The Excelle XT is also equipped with the dual-circuit braking system, which features three brake disc combinations. Advanced Safety and SecurityWith a maximum five-star NCAP safety rating anticipated, the Excelle XT’s body structure along with its restraint systems are designed to exceed crash safety standards around the world. The Guangzhou Auto Show is open to the public from November 24-30. Shanghai GM is showcasing 26 vehicles from Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac on its 3,000-square-meter stand. 19 comments: Buick Excelle XT inigo_montoya (867) Posted on 12.20.2011 The sad part of this car manufacturer is that, they are very slow in building cars. However, when they got to release a newer version of a car.. Well, I’m sure everyone will drool just by looking at it!
AstonVantag3 (348) Posted on 12.12.2011 In spite of having only a simple detailing, I’m still impressed with this for the fact that it is so reliable on the road and very practical to use for everyday transportation.
charles_vince (457) Posted on 12.8.2011 It looks so ordinary on its exterior design, and I really not expecting it to be such a luxurious car, and it truly amazed me on that. Good thing as well that it has an awesome engine.
Battista_Pisani (291) Posted on 11.10.2011 This Excelle XT is really looking so cool and classy in its sleek body paint, and I’m glad that they didn’t forget to add also some safety features on this one, and I’m impressed with its engine specification.
lookatmycar (286) Posted on 10.4.2011 Glad to know that Buick Excelle XT offered a choices of a three engines. As for its looks I found it so classy and elegant. What I love the most with this XL is its interior part.
millano_mina (409) Posted on 10.3.2011 long hatchback always gives me surprised most specially on its interior and the things you could do to the car. Very convenient and comfortable. Definitely one of their best car offer.
YamahaBikes (320) Posted on 08.24.2011 I love the advanced safety and the security of this Excelle XT but I must agree with them that the platform design is not really impressive at all.

Colby_Brian (399) Posted on 07.15.2011 What are you saying? The speed performance of the car is great and I think it offers a great handling. BTW, I bet this production would be an offer a better fuel economy.
joey_santana (329) Posted on 07.15.2011 I have to say that I’m impressed with the styling of this car. The speed performance is not that impressive but I think an aftermarket version would make it more sportier and will boost its power output.
SweetChevy (318) Posted on 06.27.2011 Well, except from the Chinese version! This car is originally this car was manufactured by GM but China have a legal right to remake this car. Personally, I don’t want it and I think carriage sounds safer! Sorry guys..

Dave_Barney (412) Posted on 03.7.2011 Saturn Astra didn’t work here in US I think the Buick also. Well, I have heard that its popular in China. But depending on the price I don’t know who’s going to buy one of this.
memphisroyce (430) Posted on 01.28.2010 well the design is simple yet elegant, i really like it’s dash panels looks sporty and impressive, but there is one thing that i don’t like about this car... it’s shift knob is very near at the dash which ruins the sportiness of the dash.
chris_cortez (612) Posted on 01.18.2010 I think it’s bulkier. I’m more on seeing the body structure of the car coz’ if it’s stated as a hatchback, I will categorize it on a SUV or Crossover.
Euginewoods (556) Posted on 01.7.2010 If this is any sign of the Buick compact coming to america, I hope we get a sportier 3-door variant or at least a more conventional looking sedan. Four door compact hatchbacks aren’t attractive, especially with those proportions. I will say the front end looks great and so does the interior.
