2011 Buick Envision Concept

General Motors has unveiled the Envision at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show. While the concept itself won’t be put into production, the company says it "represents a convergence of future ideas and technology for Buick in the market."

The Envision Concept was developed by Shanghai GM and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), and according to GM, integrates global design with local aesthetics for the China market, adhering to Buick’s "dynamic, fluid, quiet and comfortable" design essence.

The Envision has inherited Buick design DNA and taken the Buick global design language to a new height. It makes a significant statement for Buick styling and technology, and will influence upcoming models from the brand," said Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design.

And, in trend with all the latest concept cars, the Envision incorporates GM’s world-leading PHEV plug-in hybrid system.

Buick Envision Concept

The new Buick Envision Concept is defined by dynamic lines, sharp angles, and curved shapes. Up front there is a two-layer traditional Buick waterfall grille with large air intakes, a Buick tri-colored shield insignia, headlamps and fog lamps inspired by the traditional Chinese patterns, and LED technologies.

The side features sharp lines, powerful wheel arches, a one-piece roof, and a set of 22" doubled-layered aluminum alloy wheels. A very important feature of the concept are the scissor-style doors with sensors. At the rear it gets slim, sharp porcelain-like tail lamps integrated with gleaming LED lights.

On the interior, the Envision gets a 360-degree all-around integrated design and unique asymmetric central console. The general look is a combination of high-quality galaxy-blue and sand-beach white Italian leather with high-class maple and metallic materials with a velvety texture.

The list of technologies includes the next-generation Bluetooth DUN Intelligent Internet system and three micro-cameras replacing the rear view mirrors.

Under the hood of the Envision, Buick has placed GM’s breakthrough PHEV plug-in hybrid system that combines a 2.0-liter SIDI intelligent direct injection turbocharged engine with a pair of electric motors and an automatic/manual eight-speed transmission. The electric motors are powered by a high-performance lithium battery and a solar energy roof with optical equipment.

Buick said that the Envision itself will not be put into production, so do not expect to see this on the road. However, design elements and technologies will be used in future models.

Buick Envision Concept

A production version of the Envision with the exact same look as the concept would have plenty of success on the market, but since this car isn’t being produced and GM brings cool cars to every other market, but USA, we’re not going to be seeing it anytime soon. We know there are already lots of hybrid crossovers out there, but the Envision has something that catches our eye; it’s a combination of sporty and elegant, a combination that should have been used for all GM models.

Buick Envision Concept
  • Impressive exterior look with scissor-style doors
  • Hybrid powertrain
  • Futuristic interior
  • A production version Buick will never look as cool as the concept
  • We’ll never get it

The interior is really great! I really want to see the real thing someday.

Wow. Wow. Wow. I really really really want this car. Look at the door ! It’s awesome!.

Wow. Everything is cool but I’m afraid that this will only be a concept.

Very nice concept, I haven’t see a hatchback with scissor-type doors. The design is futuristic and the colors matches too.

This concept is certainly recognized by many. It’s evidently innovative inside and out.

The Envision concept is just perfect. They’ve already envisioned what was going to be a huge success in the market. Based on the exterior, the metallic figure is right. The interior is cool like an aerospace ship or like a car in the movie Tron.

Well, it seems that Buick would be coming up with newer platform and seems that this one looks better compare to their previous model!

Wow! When I saw this car the first thing that I have noticed is the platform! I really love the futuristic styling here! I bet when this goes into production this would sell like hot cakes.

Its high-tech door is really cool, and I would admit that among all futuristic vehicles that I saw this day, this Envision is the most appealing. However, I don’t like that this is a hybrid car.

It looks so impressive on its futuristic detailing, and it looks more elegant on its car lines. Good thing as well that it has a stunning interior. I just only hope that it is not an electric vehicle.

Buick is one of the most attractive and lovely futuristic concept vehicles that I saw today! Well, I just only hope that when they finally put it on the market it will be on a reasonable price.

Buick Envision is one of the most impressive concept vehicles that I saw, but I am only hoping that they really had the plan to put it on the market. Anyway, is it a hybrid car?

This vehicle is truly a good-looking car, and I must say that I also love the futuristic detailing that it had, but I think Buick didn’t really have a plan to put this one on the market.

It looks so cute on that platform and styling, and I noticed that it had a futuristic touch, I just only hope that they would really put this one on the market.

Bad thing that they will not put this one on production. This concept is really an awesome and I’m pretty sure it will hit the market so why don’t you put in production?

Highly made car, every components from its exterior headlights, mouthed style and its upper slide door to its aggressive overall gesture. On the interior, very integrated design and and asymmetric central console. Truly a hybrid car.

The side rims of this concept seem it is smashed or hit by another car. smiley Anyway, I must say that it had an impressive appearance. A dreadful angst is really obvious on this one but just like them, I don’t believe in hybrid car.

I’m impressed with the front design of this Envision concept and with its futuristic interior design, one thing I don’t like with this concept is its scissor type door.

What a modern interior Envision has! The galaxy blue color is perfect of the white colored seats. A much awaited car for this season as usual.

Too bad that they don’t have any intention to put this one on production, it seems too perfect for me, a complete packaged for a concept car.
