It looks like Cadillac->ke18 is preparing to say "Good Bye" to the current-generation CTS in a very nice way: with two special editions based on the CTS Coupe and V-Series models. First there will be a CTS-V Coupe Silver Frost Edition limited to just 100 units and the second a Stealth Blue edition. Both new editions will arrive in March.

As their name suggest, the two new special editions will be pretty much about the exterior colors, with no updates under the hood. The Silver Frost edition will also get a new set of high-polished or satin-graphite wheels combined with brake caliper in yellow or red. On the interior the only updates will be limited to a suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob.

The Stealth Blue will get a dark finish grille, plus a new set of wheels painted in satin and combined with silver calipers. On the interior it will add Recaro performance seats.

Exterior

The most obvious difference on the new CTS-V Silver Frost Edition will be of course its exterior paint. Cadillac engineers used a special method when applying this color: they used a "30-gloss" clear coat to the paint, as opposed to the "80-gloss" found in standard paint finishes. As a result, this special Silver Frost paint will be matte, but will also emit a low "sparkle" when certain lights reflect off it.

The second special edition - the Stealth Blue CTS - brings no major update, just the blue-grey paint finish. It can be built on CTS coupe, V coupe and sedan models.

Both models will be offered with satin graphite wheels or high polished for the Silver Frost edition.

Silver Frost CTS-V exterior features:

-Yellow or red Brembo brake calipers

-High polished or satin graphite wheels

-Suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob

Stealth Blue CTS exterior features:

-Satin graphite wheels with silver calipers

-Dark finish grille

-Recaro performance seats

Interior

The updates offered on the interior by the two special editions are quite limited. The Silver Frost edition adds only a suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob, while the Stealth Blue will add an optional "Twilight Blue" leather interior package, plus standard Recaro seats.

Silver Frost CTS-V interior features:

-Suede-covered steering wheel and shift knob

Stealth Blue CTS interior features:

-Recaro performance seats

Drivetrain

No changes were made under the hood. Depending on the models they are based on, the new editions will come with either a 318-horsepower 3.6-liter direct-injection engine or a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 556 horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque.

Prices

The two special editions will arrive at dealers next month and prices will be announced then.

Competition

Considering these two new special editions can be combined with both sedan and coupe, standard and CTS-V versions, the list of competitors can get pretty big, but we will stick to the most interesting ones.

Audi RS 5

Choosing between the CTS-V Coupe and the RS5 can be pretty difficult: the RS5 is one of the most elegant sports coupes on the market, but at the same time the new CTS-V proved itself a very serious competitor on the market. The RS5 is powered by a 4.2 FSI V8 engine that delivers a total of 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque - an output that puts it way behind the CTS-V.

When it comes to finances, the CTS-V is again the winner: $64,515 vs. $ 69,795 for the RS5. Still, you should expect a different price for the new special edition.

BMW M3->ke2366

The BMW M3 again has a huge disadvantage to the CTS-V, as it uses a V8 engine with an output of only 414 horsepower. The current M3 Coupe has one big advantage: its $60,100 price tag is a little bit cheaper than both of the above models.

Conclusion

It’s cool that Cadillac decided to bring the CTS-V back to our attention; still we are not very sure that a special color makes much of a special edition. We guess we will find out if it really worth when the company announces the final prices.
