The 2014 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe may be long in the tooth, but it still has some surprisingly springy legs, which a testament to how far Cadillac has come in turning this high-powered CTS Coupe into a real luxury sports coupe.

Unfortunately, the CTS-V Coupe didn’t get the same love from Cadillac as far as looks are concerned. That honor was bestowed to the all-new CTS Sedan , and judging by how well-received the CTS Sedan was when it made its debut at the 2013 New York International Auto Show, the CTS-V should have reason for optimism when it gets its due turn in the new-generation design.

For now, though, the 2014 CTS-V Coupe trudges on with relatively minor updates since it made its debut in 2008. It’s a risky move for Cadillac, especially when a lot of customers can just opt to sit back and wait for the new-look CTS-V Coupe to arrive.

Cadillac ATS Coupe

Cadillac’s been making waves this week for all the right reasons. Days after it debuted the all-new ATS Coupe , the U.S. manufacturer confirmed that the car’s performance-oriented trim, the aptly named ATS-V , will have performance numbers that would put it right smack in the middle of the BMW M3’s crosshairs.

According to Motor Trend, the ATS-V will carry a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V-6 engine that will produce 425 horsepower — the exact same output as its German competitor. More importantly, or at least until we hear more about it, Caddy also has plans to build an even more powerful ATS-V, which will reportedly be called the ATS-V+. That one is expected to use a bigger V-8 engine that could potentially have as much as 500 horsepower on tap.

These announcements carry a lot of significance for Cadillac in its attempt to be a player in the sports coupe segment. With plenty of European brands staking their respective claims in the U.S. market, America had to be represented. Cadillac is trying to answer that call and judging by the way the ATS was received at the North American International Auto Show , there will be a lot of interested folks out there waiting to for the company to develop the ATS-V.

A standard Cadillac CTS-V is powered by a 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 that delivers a total of 556 horsepower, which is downright amazing for a sports sedan. From here to 1,309 horsepower is a very long way and requires tons of updates. But this is exactly the amount of power that this CTS-V, known as the most powerful one in the world, happens to have.

In order to obtain this amazing amount of power, the owner of this CTS-V updated the supercharged V-8 with a pair of Precision turbochargers, an air-to-water intercooler and heavy-duty gearbox. With these updates in tow, he now owns the most powerful CTS-V in the world — at least the most powerful one that we know of.

Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Leland and only seven years later, General Motors acquired it. Currently, Caddy is one of the oldest automakers in the world, and it delivers cars to the U.S. and 34 additional markets worldwide.

Cadillac has always been a very successful company, plus it was the first American car to win the Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England. In 2013, however, its success grew even further, as Cadillac enjoyed a 21-percent increase in sales, with almost 185,000 units delivered worldwide. The overall sales number marked the most since 2007 and the overall brand growth made it the fastest-growing luxury brand in 2013, which is obviously a byproduct of the brand’s largest expansion since 1976.

As you probably expect, the greatest success in the lineup went to the new sedans — the ATS and CTS — which saw sales improvement of 48 percent over 2012 sedan sales numbers.

The 2014 ELR had a late hand in boosting the overall sales numbers, as deliveries began in December.

We’ve brought you all the important details about Cadillac’s newest flagship SUV: the totally new 2015 Escalade and Escalade ESV. Now we bring you live images and our first impressions of the beastly, all-American luxury SUV.

Over the weekend at the Miami International Auto Show , we had the chance to climb inside the completely redesigned Escalade to see the improvements first hand. The Escalade is based on its GM cousins, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban , along with the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. Across the board, the interiors are much improved in regards to roominess and use of space. Finally for the first time, the full-size General Motors SUVs have folding rear seats that allow for a flat load floor.

The second row has grown two inches in the footwell for added ease of entry and exit for taller, larger-footed passengers. Their height won’t be a problem inside either, as headroom is quite generous throughout the cabin. The Escalade we sampled was equipped with the second-row captains chairs. The center aisle was wide enough for easy access to the third row and the nearly flat floor kept tripping hazards to the minimum.

Up front, the driver is treated to the same huge TFT display found in the Cadillac CTS and XTS. Real wood trim is abundant and contrasts nicely with the soft leather seating. Fit and finish is unmatched by any Cadillacs of past. Gaps and seams were tight even and intricate details abound throughout the cabin. The details continue outside with etched Cadillac crests appearing within the clear plastic tail lamps.

Such details were a welcome addition to what will assuredly be a home run for General Motors.

Even though the Holiday season is about a month away, Cadillac and Saks Fifth Avenue joined forces to develop a special edition Cadillac ELR that will be displayed in the 2013 Saks Holiday Catalog. This special edition is limited to only 100 units, and you can order it now. Caddy will start delivering this limited ELR in March 2014, and it checks in at a base price of $89,500 — nearly $15k more than a base ELR, which is priced at $75,995.

So, what kind of goodies do you get for this extra cash, besides exclusivity? The 2014 Cadillac Saks Fifth Avenue Special Edition ELR features an exclusive White Diamond exterior paint combined with an interior in either Jet Black or Light Cashmere.

The ELR also comes with an upgraded 240-volt charging station with professional installation — permits included — and their own ELR Concierge Representatives to offer information on battery care, home charging, service scheduling, and news and updates.

Oh wait, you were expecting a little more for your $15k... Sorry folks, that’s about all she wrote. We don’t know about this one; exclusivity is cool and all, but $15k for a $3k charger and some exclusive colors, not impressed...

Our friends over at MotorTrend have just announced their 2014 pick for the rather prestigious Car Of The Year award. The MT team had their work cut out for them with a large 22-car field, but after running their battery of tests, the 2014 Cadillac CTS took home the Golden Calipers.

As Editor-in-Chief Ed Loh explains in the video, the cars are not compared directly to each other, but against six key criteria: Advancement in design, safety, efficiency, engineering excellence, performance of intended function and value. The CTS had each in spades.

The CTS is offered with three engines that are not tied to trim levels, making the number of build combinations quite numerous. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged in-line four makes respectable power while keeping fuel bills low. The naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter, V-6 makes strong numbers as well and certainly won’t leave owners with buyer’s remorse. That is, unless, you’re looking for a driver’s car. Then the twin-turbo, 3.6-liter, V-6 making 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque within the CTS Vsport fits the bill.

A chassis that’s hundreds of pounds lighter than the competition, coupled with the optional Magnetic Ride Control, make the CTS handle like a surgeon’s scalpel. And speaking of scalpels, MotorTrend had only great things to say about the cutting-edge design of the CTS’ exterior. The long LED accent lights that fall from the fenders to the lower front fascia were a particular area of interest for the judges.

The contender’s field may have been 22 cars deep, but the CTS was the one that met or exceeded the judges six criteria in a big way. Cheers to Cadillac who has come so far in the last 10 years.

The all-new 2015 Cadillac Escalade has arrived! Official images followed a posh event in New York last night, debuting the production version of the new Cadillac flagship.

After becoming quite familiar with the updates to the similar 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon Denali , it is clear that all three of these machines are vastly improved in almost every way. As the Cadillac of the line, the Escalade naturally brings the best 420-horsepower, V-8 engine and third-gen magnetic shocks as standard.

The Caddy’s exterior is defined by some striking LED lighting front and back. Luxury details abound inside the cabin, including special leathers and better seats than its cheaper siblings. Offered as a gurgling rear-drive or refined all-wheel-drive setup in regular or ESV sizes, the new Escalade is faster, smoother and more efficient than ever before.

The Escalade is still the king of the road in many places, and the new grille is certainly enough to grab some flash bulbs. This big truck looks great versus the previous three generations of Cadillac full-size SUVs. With pricing and dimensions that put most other SUVs in "time out," the Escalade is tipped for pricing between $65,000 and $95,000 when it arrives in early Spring 2014.

The Cadillac Elmiraj concept is still creating a furor weeks after its public debut at Pebble Beach 2013 .

Speculation is rampant about the concept’s direct market potential as well as its broad influence over many future Cadillac decisions. Such is the price of an absolutely knockout concept car, one that nailed the seaside mood of the year and, perhaps, this summer’s automotive zeitgeist.

Big words for big luxury cars. The collective consciousness that Cadillac ’s Elmiraj put on four wheels is one of uncertainty about the future, but also shaping that future to our wildest dreams.

As such, the Elmiraj is very important, despite being just a subtle nip and tuck versus the Ciel of 2012. Purple paint became blue, the grille lost its chintzy plastic egg crates, and a new badge was born without the wreath.

But what should Cadillac do with the Elmiraj? Should it inspire a new version of the on-again, off-again 2016 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine? Personal Luxury coupes are well and good for the 1-percent crowd, but could never offer real brand power, sales volume or the high-profile flagship duties a true rear-drive Cadillac sedan should.

A well-executed Fleetwood could even serve as a new armored upgrade of the current presidential limo: DTS-styled 3500HD pickup truck, affectionately referred to as "The Beast."

A special contributor to GM Inside News has visions of a future Fleetwood that are addictive to watch. In its enhancements of the Elmiraj concept, there at least three viable models looking ready for sale tomorrow at $75,000. This is truly a knockout series of digital renderings about a future Elmiraj-inspired Cadillac lineup.

Low roof, high roof, stretched, coach doors, no B-pillar: they all whir by in a mind-bending blur. There are even two crossover versions to ponder.

Design credit for these speculative renderings is firmly with whiz kid "MonaroSS" of GM Inside News, who wishes to remain anonymous, but this TopSpeed-exclusive animation now belongs to the ages.

Cadillac unveiled a first ELR concept back in 2011 and ever since then everyone was pretty sure a production will also follow. Things got pretty clear in 2012 when a leak from OnStar confirmed Cadillac will dive into the hybrid realm with a vehicle not named "Escalade ." The model finally made its world debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show and according to the first official details we have, it offers "an unprecedented combination of luxury, advanced engineering and progressive design."

However, this is not the first time in Caddy’s long history that it’s tread into the economy car world. The first one was the laughably Cavalier-like Cimarron. If you recall, Cadillac was so embarrassed by the Cimarron that the automaker refused to call it a Cadillac and instead dubbed it the “Cimarron by Cadillac” originally. GM later forced a name change to “Cadillac Cimarron.”

Needless to say Caddy does not want to relive those days, so they took things pretty serious with the ELR. The model is being powered by the latest GM EREV technology that combined a pure electric drive and an efficient, range-extending 1.4 liter gasoline-powered electric generator.
