In 1954, early drag racing innovator Romeo Palimides teamed up with J.O. Ellison, a San Francisco machine shop owner, to design and craft cutting-edge, high strength-to-weight ratio magnesium racing wheels for his dragster. Eventually they met up with forward-thinking Tom Griffith, an engineer that was ahead of his time, and the heart and soul of American Racing Equipment was born.
With the same passion that started in that small machine shop in San Francisco fifty years ago, American Racing’s commitment to genuine, authentic hot rod wheels continues. With this commitment in mind, American’s Torq Thrust II and Hopster wheels were custom-designed to feature period correctness, functional backspacing requirements with custom sizes and modern engineering standards.
The company distributes more than 1.5 million wheels annually through state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, company-owned, satellite-connected warehouses, an independent distributor system in the United States and through international distributors in over twenty-two countries on four continents.
