Despite the less than stellar reviews for Electronic Art’s Need For Speed Undercover, the video game’s developers are still working hard to make NFSU as fun as they possibly can with a new Challenge Series. This downloadable expansion pack comes with 60 new challenges divided up into three levels as well as three highly modified prize cars.
The reward for completing the lowest tier of challenges is the “Battle Machine,” a vehicle that has been distinguished as one of the legendary cars behind NFS Pro Street. The next prize to be won is the “Speed Machine,” a tuned version of Rose’s 911 GT2 hero car from the game. The last and most difficult to unlock of the prize cars is the “Dominator”, a custom Z06 Corvette with a #1 license plate and lots of power. All three of the prize cars from the new Challenge Series come equipped with NOS, and are playable both on and offline. The best part about this new downloadable expansion pack is, that it is 100% free.
The videogame makers Activision Blizzard have announced that they are currently preparing a new racing game, IP Blur. The upcoming racing simulator should be a hit. According to Activision CEO Michael Griffith, “Blur brings real innovation to the racing category and is looking very strong. You will all get a chance to see this game first-hand at E3, but suffice it to say, we are excited to be entering this genre with this game.”
The creator of the real driving simulator, Kazunori Yanauchi, has revealed that the final version of his video game Gran Turismo 5 will include both weather changes and night races. Vehicle damage will not be incorporated in this version, but will appear in a future GT. However there has been no word confirming whether GT5 will be released sometime in 2009.
The game developers at Electronic Arts are releasing the same great Boss Car bundle from Need For Sped Undercover as a download for the Play Station 3 game system. There is also a Challenge Series featuring new cars and more game modes, but it also provides trophy support.
Most people who play Gran Turismo have wishes of success behind the wheel. But the question is, does virtual success translate directly in to the real thing? For one lucky gamer, Lucas Ordoñez, winner of The Nissan-Playstation GT Academy contest, he had the opportunity to score one for the couch potatos.
The GT academy was a competition in which players of the real driving simulator, Gran Turismo, vied for the oportunity to prove their abilities behing the wheel of a racecar. Lucas recently raced in the European GT4 round at Silverstone. His team’s 350Z started 11th and moved up to 4th before pitting for the driver change that would put Ordoñez in the driver’s seat.

EA Mobile has just released Need For Speed Undercover for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Although Undercover is being eclipsed by SHIFT on traditional consoles, running from the police is working out well for the portable Apple units. The new game features 20 customizable licensed cars like the R35 GT-R and Carrera GT for only $9.99.
While the rest of the developers at EA Games were busy perfecting the company’s latest racing simulator, Need For Speed SHIFT, another group was occupying their time in the virtual universe of Playstation HOME. The new section called the EA Sports Complex, features several sports-related mini-games, and the latest addition to the Complex is EA Sports Racing. The game allows for up to four players to burn rubber in Formula 1 inspired machines at a time. The mini-game is quite impressive and has more depth than regular flash games and will certainly entice lots of gamers, especially considering that the game is free.
For those who enjoyed the Nissan inspired images from Need For Speed’s latest creation, SHIFT, we here at Top Speed say, enjoy. The game’s creators have released a few more images of these virtual racers at speed. Judging by the game’s trailer and these screenshots, Need For Speed SHIFT very well could be the next standard in racing simulators.
