2009 Audi R4 - "baby" R8 in the work

If you like the new Audi R8, but you don’t have enough money to buy one, you will be happy to know that Audi is working on a smaller sibling for its R8 super car, which could be badged the R4. The mid-engined R4 will be the main competitor for the Porsche Boxster.

The 2009 Audi R4 will be powered by a 2-litre turbo FSI engine with an output of 269 hp. Also a RS version will be available, powered by a 2.5-litre in-line five turbocharged engine with an output of 350 hp.

The R4 would not use lightweight aluminum like the R8 and TT. Audi will use a high-strength steel spaceframe for the chassis, with hang-on body panels made of plastic and aluminum.

The R4 will see production at the end of 2009.
