Audi R8 - first ever diesel-engined supercar

When will be unveiled, the R8 will be the first ever diesel-engined supercar. It will be powered by a tuned version of the 4.2-litre V8 TDI unit first unveiled in the Q7. If in the SUV the engine has a maximum output of 322 hp and a peak torque of 560 lbs-ft, for the R8 the engine will produce more than 350 hp and 590 lbs-ft.

The engine will be mated with either a six-speed manual or six-speed R tronic transmissions. The 0 to 60 mph sprint will be made in around 5 seconds and the top speed will be around 160 mph. Also, AutoCar reports that the diesel R8 will return around 30mpg.

For the UK market, the diesel R8 will be powered at about £70,000.
