bmw considers building luxury microcar
Right after Tata unveiled the $2,500 micro car, Bmw, the Bavarian manufacturer, is planning to release a new micro car in India, more exactly a luxury version of the micro car class. According to Peter Kronschnabl, President of Bmw India, the manufacturer already completed a market analysis but he could reveal the exact date when the car would be launched.

Bmw could consider redeveloping the classic microcar built in early 50s Isseta, but this still remains only a rumor. Peter Kronschnabl said that the microcar would cost around 2,000,000 Indian Rupees (+-$50,000 at the current exchange rate) and will definetely not be intended to compete with the Tata Nano. The Bavarians didn’t want to reveal neither the size nor any details of the car but according to some leaked informations the vehicle will be based on the same platform of the existing Mini Cooper.

"There are no plans to develop a Micro Car competing with the Tata Nano. Currently, BMW is thinking within a special project about several different ways and opportunities for the future mobility, but it’s far too early to comment on any details, neither the size of these different concepts nor engine, price or anything like that." said Peter Kronschnabl at the launch of the Bmw M3 on the Indian market.
