Subaru’s philosophy is about to change in the next few years. Until now when we said Subaru things were very easy: a boxer engine under the hood and an all-wheel-drive system.
But in the future we will also have diesel and hybrid models, and even more the new FWD system (already used in the new generation Justy).
The diesel engine (featuring the same boxer architecture) will debut next year at the Geneva motor Show and on the US market will be available around 2012.
The hybrid version could be launched a bit earlier, sometime in 2010, being a project developed in cooperation with Toyota.
Rumors say that the hybrid version of the Subaru could be available even earlier, but the two makers wait for the lithium-ion technology to be even more performant than in the present.
