Toyota boss Katsuaki Watanabe confirmed the born of a new RWD sports car co-developed with Subaru. This decision was taken after Toyota announced today the increasing of its stake in Subaru’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries (now the manufacturer owns 16.5%).
In a recent interview for Automotive News, Mr. Watanabe confirmed that the new sports car will be powered by a 2.0-liter boxer engine developing around 200hp. He also added that it will be closely followed by a AWD version featuring a 300hp 2.5 liter turbocharged engine.
Planned to arrive in 2011, the new Toyota model will be inspired by the 1980’s Toyota Corolla GT, a car known for tail-happy handling while the Subaru will continue the success of the SVX coupe.
