The RB26DETT straight six in the R32 thru R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R was famous for being able to make up to 1000 HP with the stock internals. We may soon find out if the same is true for the VR38DETT in the R35 GT-R. South Side Performance has just released a turbo upgrade that has the potential to generate quadruple digit power numbers. More after the jump. The South Side Performance 1000 RR turbo kit is a direct bolt-on replacement for the stock turbochargers. At similar boost levels the newer IHI turbos will produce more power than the factory hairdryers. South Side suggests one on one consultation if you plan on turning up the pressure. As of now the turbos have produced around 700 HP when used with the GT-R motor. In theory the turbochargers can flow enough air to make 1000 HP. In order to prepare for that amount of power the tuners must figure out how to deliver more fuel to the engine and beef up the transmission to handle that kind of power. Rest assured that the day is not too far off. 4 comments: 1000 HP GT-R AK47 (1027) Posted on 03.5.2009 I knew Nissan had something up its sleeve with this car even when they pronounced it non tuneable. This is also the same company which gave us the toughest engine for the buck with the SR20. Fuel should be easy enough. A bigger set of injectors with a bigger fuel pump, with perhaps an aftermarket fuel management system. Transmission is another matter but it can also be done.
