1968 Chevelle receives the Corvette Treatment. Was it Worth it?

The Chevelle was one of the most successful nameplates in Chevrolet’s history. It was produced from 1964 to 1977 in three different generations and four distinct body styles: Coupe, Sedan, Convertible, and Station Wagon. With 34 years of Chevelle-less history, it was only a matter of time before someone thought it was a good idea to bring back the Chevelle in some sort of revival vehicle.

This blast from the past comes to us as the Chevrolet "Corvelle" and was put together by an unknown builder that thought it would be a great idea to combine the chassis from a 1968 Chevelle and just about everything else from a 2007 Corvette. Only 15% of the Chevelle was left when the Corvette’s components were added in and the end result is a seamless construction of two Chevrolet icons.

The Chevrolet Corvelle will be put up for auction by RK Motors for $109,900. It is painted in the same LeMans Blue that was available on the ’68 Chevelle and the ’07 Corvette. Power will comes from a 6.0 liter LS2 V8 engine that delivers 400 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Exterior and Interior

In order to make it look like a 1968 Chevelle, the builder ultimately tossed out about 85% of the car, retaining only the exterior sheetmetal, trim, and convertible top mechanism. The package includes beautifully chromed front and rear bumpers, a stainless windshield surround, a stainless mesh grille, a standard Chevelle badge on the rear panel, original tail lights fitted with LEDs, side markers, and quad headlights.

The interior gets charcoal leather bucket seats with the "Corvelle" logo embroidered on the headrests, the Corvette’s electronic dashboard, and a heavily modified trunk. The car comes with chrome plated 18- and 19-inch Corvette alloys wearing Corvette-spec Goodyear tires.

Engine

Under the hood, the Corvelle features the Corvette’s 6.0 liter LS2 V8 engine that delivers a total of 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The engine is combined with fuel injection, traction control, cruise control, and a fully independent Z51-spec suspension. This setup is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

We do not know anything about the car’s performance just yet, but for sure will be far better than the 1968 Chevelle’s performance.

Competition

The 1968/2007 Chevrolet Corvelle was made purely for nostalgic purposes so no real competitor was in the builder’s sights. However, if we were to bring back another model to serve as a competitor, we’d bring back the Ford Fairlane. Since this was the ’68 Chevelle’s biggest competitor, it would be the one that would be most useful in this scenario. The Ford model was offered with a 223 CID (3.7 L) straight-6 engine and a 272 CID (4.5 L) V8. It was produced between 1955 and 1970 and was offered in seven different generations.

Good thing they used the Corvette’s engine for this project. That one will definitely give this car the right amount of power that the car deserves.

Well, for an old car, they were really able to trick this one out a lot. No wonder they were able to fetch a huge price for this one.

Wow, $100,000 is a rather surprising price for this one. I though they would probably start the bid at around 120 grand. But I think that the final price of this guy will probably pass that.

Well, this car was actually based from the vintage model car but the engine were all modern. And this is probably the collaboration of the vintage and modern specs! BTW, it reminds me of the Dodge Charger RT!

hmm. When i first saw the car it reminds me of Dodge cars! You cannot blamed me, the front bumper were similar with the Dodge. Although,I have to say that the power output of this car is quite amazing for a vintage type car.

Well now, this one is certainly going to be a classic. Imagine that, a 68 Corvelle, not a lot of these are still around. And it’s a convertible to boot

During the era of this vintage cars, I have to admit that the convertible is the coolest thing that was ever made. Although, this car is just replica I would say that it truly capture the classy look of vintage car. IMO, I think it would look better on red and black theme.
