The Porsche 962 was a sports-prototype racing car built by Porsche as a replacement for the 956 and designed mainly to comply with IMSA’s GTP regulations. It was unveiled at the end of 1984 and until 1988 it was one of the most dominant cars in motorsports. Now, if you happen to have an extra $775,000 in your pocket, a 962 can be yours. The car is for sale on eBay from Miami, Florida.
This particular Porsche raced in the Del Mar and Columbus IMSA races. It is powered by a 3.2 liter Porsche air cooled motor, which by the way hasn’t been used since 1986 and was banned by IMSA in 1987.
Porsche produced a total of 91 962s with 16 being officially used by the factory team and 75 sold to customers. Towards the end of its life a few 962s have been converted for road use. One of them was the Dauer 962 Le Mans, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1994. During its life-span nearly 150 examples had been sold at a price of $853,000.
