For 2008 a new model is attended.

The world’s biggest carmaker, is developing a mid-engined, 4WD hybrid car with four seats to replace both the MR2 and Celica.

From the aesthetic it will draw inspiration from the CS+S concept shown in Tokyo in 2003. It will be characterized by sinuose and soft shapes - a return to the sixth generation, that was a winner in the world-wide rally.

The engine could be  a 4 cylinders 1,5 liters similar to that of the Toyota Yaris T-Sport(perhaps upgraded) bound together to two electric motors, one for axle. Also the existing power plants will be offered as well but with improved performances,in terms of fuel-efficiency and power output.

The last generation was in the market since 2000.The last Celica was rolled off production line on April 21, 2006.
