2011 bmw 6-series convertible spied at nurburgring picture

With a design inspired by both the new 7-Series and Z4 Roadster, the 2011 BMW 6-Series’s new architecture undertaking some serious testing at Germany’s famed Nurburgring. The 6 Series mule was spotted at the Green Hell revealing a new front bumper with a massive air dam, reshaped headlights, a more prominent double kidney grille and a redesigned rear-end.

Under the hood BMW is rumored to keep the same engine as the current model, the only change being the 4.8 Liter V8 being replaced by a smaller 400 HP 4.4 Liter turbocharged V8 from the BMW 750i. Whereas the top of the line M version will get the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the new BMX X6M.

Still the highest performance 6 series is the BMW M6.

The back window on the car looks fabricated. I think the new X6 will have a hard top standard. This is just to confuse the photographers. Although, BMW did do a convincing job of making this soft top look real.

BMW has done well with the various coupes and convertibles under the current 6-Series lineup. Sales are estimated at over 20,000 annually with the second generation 6.

If the Bimmer will get this little upgrade the real focus here is the aerodynamic boosting of its turbocharged engine that will fit with the more astringent US emission standards provided by the upgraded body kit and smaller engine.

smaller engine type means less emission, good ratings means better sales. Its a timely marketing strategy for BMW to keep its car’s prices on top.

If they are saying that there’s not much change, then there’s no need to upgrade.

The M series will get a twin-turbo. A parallel turbocharged engine on which two turbochargers compress the intake charge. There are two commonly used twin turbo configurations; parallel twin-turbo, and sequential twin-turbo. This one gets the turbocharged engine.
