Corvette has confirmed already that the C7 Corvette is under development and will be launched in 2011. Built as a crossroad between revolution and evolution, the C7 Corvette will keep what makes the Corvette a Corvette: an improved fuel economy, a better transmission, and serious weight reduction, but keep the V8, the long hood, the short deck, and the fastback styling.

The revolution

The first hypothesis says the future Corvette will be a radical sportscar powered by a central engine (same way as the Ferrari and Lamborghini). In this way Corvette will gain in terms of exclusivity and prestige; will have a limited production time; and also will clearly separate the Chevrolet's activities from those of Cadillac. But on the other hand a central engine will mean an increased production cost, and of course a higher price for the Corvette.

The evolution

The 2011 Corvette will get radical new proportions, better comfort, improved handling, weight reduction and an improved fuel economy. of course that better performance and consumption reduction will mean higher price; but to keep the price at an acceptable level, Chevrolet will use carbon fiber instead of aluminum for the body construction.
