Chrysler announced a voluntary recall for 2013 Dodge Challenger->ke249 models equipped with a V-6 engine and produced during an eight-week period ending Jan. 24, 2013. The recall affects a total of 4,459 vehicles, of which approximately 1,900 are in dealer hands and 2,500 units have already been delivered to customers.

According to the official statement, the units recalled are affected by a potential short circuit that could cause a wire harness to overheat and possibly lead to fire. This problem has already led to seven such incidents, but luckily no one was hurt.

Chrysler announced that the affected owners will be contacted by phone or mail and will be asked to immediately refrain from driving their vehicles until; it is repaired by a local dealer. Also, Chrysler is advising its clients not to park their vehicles in or near any structures.

Each model will be repaired free of charge.
