The next-generation Mercedes-Benz->ke187 SL prototype has been caught testing at the Nurburgring sporting some clunky black camouflage. Thankfully, we were able to see the LED headlights and the usual hard top. At first glance, the next-generation SL-Class seems to look exactly like the current model, but, upon closer inspection, we noticed that this particular SL sits a little lower and a little wider than its current model. Mercedes has also been able to reduce the car’s current body weight of 1750-2050kg by using an aluminum chassis enhancing the vehicle’s fuel economy and driving performance.

This luxury roadster will have a 5.5L V8 engine mated to a seven speed automatic transmission producing 387hp with a possibility of carrying a 4.0L twin turbo engine as well. If the current trends are any indication, the next generation Mercedes SL-Class->ke950 will also sport a hybrid powertrain. Interior options are still anyone’s guess, but we expect minimal changes in that department.

Expect the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class to start sales somewhere the third quarter of 2012.
