Now that Chevrolet->ke199 has officially announced the 2014 Silverado, it is time for its biggest competitor - Ford F-150->ke423 to make the next move. New details suggest that Ford will in fact be offering a first concept version of the 2015 F-150 next month at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The current generation F-150 is on sale ever since 2009 and received an updated version with new engines and a new look in 2011. However, do not expect the production version of the F-150 to arrive shortly after the concept - rumors suggest in fact that customers interested in the new generation pick-up will have to wait until late fall of 2014. That will offer the Ford model quite a disadvantage in front of its Silverado competitor set to go on sale in the second quarter of 2013.

The 2015 F-150 will be about 700 lbs lighter than the current generation and Ford has promised a fuel economy improved by 15 to 20%. The model will be offered with a new generation of V-6 engines, internally known as the "Nano" family, in the 2.7 to 2.9-liter displacement range.

Full details will be unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, stay tuned!
