Although production of the 2015 Ford Mustang is not scheduled to begin for another two months, the brand-new pony is on sale and already enjoying great success, especially in Europe. With hundreds of examples already booked via preliminary reservations, Ford->ke31 has just fired up the online configurator so we can all have a little fun going through the car's options and features.

The configurator->ke4840 allows users to pick from five different fastback versions. The base V-6 sits alone at the bottom of the range, while both the EcoBoost and the V-8-powered GT are available in standard and Premium guises. Moving over to the Convertible 'Stang, the EcoBoost and the GT are only available in their Premium trims.

Once you select a transmission -- either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic -- the Mustang->ke428 is ready to receive one of the many available exterior colors. A range of packages, options and up to six distinct wheels designs round out the vehicle's exterior customization potential. The next step takes us into the cabin where possibilities are reduced to just a few options and upgrades.

Things should get far more interesting in the Accessories section, but that part of the configurator is not available as of 06/13/2014. Nonetheless, there's plenty of fun to be had loading the 2015 Mustang with all sorts of features inside and out. Before any extras are added, the brand-new pony->ke507 starts from $23,600 with a Fastback body and from $29,100 with a soft-top.

Exterior Colors and Options

All 2015 Mustangs, no matter the trim and the drivetrain, are available in 10 exterior colors. Eight of them, including the unique, greenish Guard, the racy Competition Orange, and the classic Wimbledon White, come at no extra cost. If you're looking to get a little flashier with shades, such as Triple Yellow or Ruby Red, you'll have to pay an extra $495 or $395, respectively.

Depending on trim level, the pony can be equipped with a number of options and packages. The Enhanced Security Package will set you back another $395, while adding the Reverse Sensing System will cost $295. To place a spare wheel and tire set in the trunk, customers will have to pay $195. More cash fly out of your wallet when the vehicle of choice is a GT Premium, as the 50 Years Appearance Package retails for $1,595 and the GT Performance Package needs a $2,495 infusion. The optional wheels can fetch anywhere between $155 and $1,295.

If the rear spoiler is something you'd rather skip on, Ford will gladly delete the part at no additional cost.

Interior Options

The Mustang's interior can also be configured depending on trim and equipment group. The V-6 Fastback, for instance, gets a six-way, power driver seat with power lumbar support from the 051A equipment group, which costs $995. SYNC technology is included at no cost, while a set of all-weather floor mats will set customers back $95.

The list of goodies that buyers can add to the cabin grows larger on the EcoBoost Premium. The 201A equipment group, priced at $1,795, adds a Shaker Pro audio system and memory driver seat among other features. As for individual items, Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Mitigation costs $1,195, while the voice-activated navigation system requires a $795 entrance fee.

EcoBoost Premium customers can have either the 50th Anniversary leather or the Premier Trim with color accents at no cost, but selecting a set of leather-wrapped, Recaro sport seats will set them back another $1,595. The range-topping GT Premium comes with the same features and options in both Fastback and Convertible configurations.

2015 Ford Mustang

Completely redesigned for the 2015 model year, the sixth-generation Mustang is distinguished by brand-new body work, a revised interior, upgraded technology, and an independent rear suspension. Although it now includes Ford's trademark, trapezoidal grille, the Mustang's new front fascia retains a number of details seen on the first-generation pony, including the signature gills that are now LED units. Around back, the taillight configuration is reminiscent of the previous generation, while the reshaped bumper and trunk add a fresh touch to its appearance.

For the first time in its 50-year-long history, the entire Mustang lineup drops the solid live rear axle and replaces it with a new independent suspension system. The unit is supposed to enhance the Mustang's handling on the street and track, and move it closer to its European competitors like the BMW M4. The pony's traditional V-6 and V-8 engines have also been revised. The 3.7-liter V-6 will delivers more than 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of twist, while the 5.0-liter Coyote will generate more than 420 horses and 390 pound-feet. All-new to the range is a turbocharged, 2.3-liter EcoBoost, a four-banger that's set to churn a little more than 305 horsepower and 300 pound-feet.
