Ford->ke31’s massive worldwide debut of the all-new 2015 Mustang was nothing short of spectacular. While the Mustang coupe stole the show, the convertible made its appearance but didn’t seem to make its presence known. However, Ford->ke31 is pulling out the stops to properly introduce the redesigned pony. Just like it did 50 years ago, Ford is putting a Mustang atop the Empire State Building, parking on the observation deck along the 86th floor.

Unfortunately, Ford is running into the same issue it had debuting the first-generation Mustang -- how to get it up there. A simple helicopter drop becomes impossible when considering the deck’s close proximity to the Empire’s tall spire. Rolling in a mobile crane would work except a crane that tall doesn’t exist. So, like the Mustang before, the new pony will squeeze into an elevator.

As you can imagine, the ‘Stang would have a hard time fitting in an elevator built for people. Just like in 1964, the car will be sliced into three sections before making the ascension. Ford’s team of engineers with then have a mere six hours to reassemble the car before its grand debut 1,454 feet off the ground on April 16, coinciding with the New York Auto Show->ke226 happening below. The car will be on display for a short 54 hours before the process happens in reverse.

Ford Mustang

Celebrating its 50th year, the 2015 Mustang is an all-new iteration of the icon. Retro looks with modern muscle help keep the car very relevant. New this year will be a new 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder option that promises over 300 horsepower. Returning are the 3.7-liter V-6 and the sinister 5.0-liter V-8. Both a manual and automatic transmission will be offered with each engine. Power is still routed to the rear wheels though the rear suspension is an all-new independent setup, leaving 50 years of solid axle history in its tire-smoking wake.

Pricing for the new Mustang hasn’t been released yet, though we suspect Ford to come clean at the New York Auto Show going on April 16-17.
