Yes we know it sounds impossible, but a group of graduate students North Carolina State University are working to make the impossible, possible! Their attempt is called Splinter and is a 600 hp supercar built of wood.

Yes of course, the Splinter will feature some other materials too: glue! Best in the world: PVAs, UF, urethanes, and epoxies.

Under the hood there will be a twin-supercharged V8 engine that delivers 600 bhp. "The beast began life as a Cadillac Northstar aluminum block. We reversed the flow of the 32V, DOHC cylinder heads, which resulted in exhaust headers running out of the top center where the intake manifold would have typically been. This setup required us to fabricate 2 small intake manifolds which would fit in the normal location of the exhaust headers. Each intake manifold has its own Root-style supercharger feeding it through 2 air-to-water intercoolers."

They expect their car to hit a top speed of 190 mph!
