Abarth in talks with KTM to produce special edition X-Bow

In the auto industry, the phrase ‘never say never’ rings true like Sunday morning gospel. Even if the whole situation seems unlikely, it still doesn’t mean that slim chances won’t ever happen.

Take this reported new partnership for example. Whispers are getting louder in the auto circles of a potential project that would involve two brands joining forces: Fiat’s in-house tuning firm, Abarth and the Austrian brand KTM .

From what we’ve heard, the reported tie-up between the two companies will center on a particular car that will be released in 2013. No details were mentioned on what kind of car it actually is, but it was mentioned that it could be something along the likes of an Audi-powered mid-engined two-seater that uses a rolling chassis, similar to what is found in the current X-Bow. Abarth is reportedly also working on putting in a new 1.8-liter version of Fiat’s MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine that’s capable of producing power in excess of 200 horsepower. The Italian tuning house is likewise expected to add some new features, including a unique bodyshell that will be built around the X-Bow’s current carbon fiber monocoque platform. This would make it, at the very least, a little more user-friendly and usable as a standard road car.

The expected price tag on the car is somewhere around £42,000 – £50,000 ($67,000 - $75,000) and it could hit the streets as soon as 2013.

Sounds weird, but this news has brought into a positive tie up. And we shall wait for the best scoop after its official release on 2013.

hmm. So they are share the same chassis with Audi? Well, I do love the mid-engine used for this car. I have to admit that they have an incredible speed and performance.

@remy_martini, Well, I don’t think that it has an hideous look compare to a trike! IMO, this kind of vehicle is the best option for a off-road experience. BTW, the newer version of Abarth really looks so cool! I think you would love it!

This is a crazy invention! I’m just kidding. Well, you have to think twice before riding on this one. You might ended up with severe headache.

So, what’s going on here? Surprisingly, the design was really horrible! You better wear all protection gears when you drive this one. Its not a standard car for me.

haha. WOW! I really don’t know how far this competition between the KTM and Abarth will go. However, I like both of the concept. And i love the future platform of the X-bow!

What you said is so true! The newer version of Abarth is quite impressive. There are a lot of upgrades and modification has been made.

Recently, I have seen a new version of Abarth, and it seems cooler compared to this version. Go check it out. And the competition between the Abarth and KTM is getting tougher.

looks so amazing wonderful..i like the color of the Abarth..orange and black..nice though..

Ok, so if they can make Atom’s (Honda Engines), and KTM(Audi Engines) for above $50,000. Who is going to be smart and kill them in price and power by using and LS1 engine. These engine’s are easy to tune, high HP/TQ, and relatively cheap to fix. I would love to see one of those for $25,000 - $30,000. It would blow the others away (IMO).

Where is the price listed for this thing, I don’t believe how it could be cheaper than the Atom.

I really like it. Abarth sounds cool. I hope the engine performs nicer too.

I love track cars! The KTM is growing on me, but still not up to Ariel Atom levels, yet. I want to have to think about whether the helmet is appropriate wear for the trip to the ice cream stand!

The Atom out performs the KTM and Caterhams are in the same ballpark. They’ve both also been making their vehicles for longer than KTM and have more vehicles on the track AND street. In what regard are they catching up??

so what’s the difference of the old KTM to the New one? or should i say special one?
