Audi A1 confirmed for 2009

On Friday, Volkswagen has announced that the subsidiary company Audi will start producing the A1 starting 2009, in Brussel. Planned production is 10.000 copies per year. Pricing is expected to be set around $20.000.

The Audi A1 will be based Golf IV PQ34 platform. The design will be inspired by that of the 2005 Audi Shooting Brake concept, especially in the rear. Two or four doors will be offered for passenger access plus an extra door for the generously sized trunk. The general look of the car will be a sporty and dynamic one, a match for the already announced competitor, the Volvo C30.

It is not decided yet if the Audi A1 will be available on the US market.
