Porsche seems to be embracing its new role in the Volkswagen Group. Today we've already seen news about the Audi R4 and Porsche Boxster/Cayman possibly sharing a platform, now Porsche may be looking to go further into the Audi line. The latest rumor from Germany has Porsche interested in doing some heavy breathing on the A5/S5 coupe.

Porsche helped launch Audi's RS line of cars back in 1994 with the RS2 based on the Audi 80 Avant (wagon). Now it seems that Porsche wants to get back in the business of hot-hatch Audis by working with the upcoming RS5->ke2628 as a base. Speculation pegs the car with 4.2-liter V8 making about 450 hp (over 100 hp more than the S5) and Quattro all-wheel drive. Porsche will help with all aspects of the engineering including reducing the car's overall weight.

One of the more suspicious parts of this rumor is that this Porsche-tuned package will come in a car known as the A5 Sportback - an A5 with four-doors and a bigger trunk or hatchback. Doesn't Audi already have a sports sedan/wagon in this segment? (HINT FOR NUBIES: the A5 is the coupe version of the A4)
