The new BMW 1M is one of our most anticipated vehicles and frankly, it can’t arrive soon enough. And it seems, after skipping the Paris Auto Show to make some rounds on the streets of Paris, the new M1 will debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. That is, if the first round of prototype driving reports are correct.

The newest M product is a bit old school compared to the rest of the range, as this model will feature a manual transmission, not those fancy paddle shift automatics. In the power department, we are banking on an upgraded twin-turbocharged inline-six that will pump out around 335 horsepower. All that power will run through the rear wheels via a torque vectoring M differential.

In the style department, The BMW->ke178 has multi-spoke wheels, drilled discs, and quad exhausts. It short, the 1W will look a bit like the 1-Series, just with a few extra steroid injections to pump everything up and out.

After the Detroit show wraps up, the M1 will hit showrooms in May, with only 2,700 examples produced for the world’s auto loving population. There will only be three colors available: Alpine White, Jet Black, and Valencia Orange Metallic.
