BMW has unveiled the CS Concept at the Shanghai auto show and according to their statement, the concept will inspire the future design irection under the leadership of American Chris Bangle.
The BMW four-door concept features Bangle’s touch, along with several new interpretations of classic BMW styling. The wide BMW kidney grille is as bold as the one that adorned the out-of-production Z8. The concept has an updated version of BMW’s side contour line, as well as flush-mounted door handles.
The car sits on 21-inch alloy wheels. Bold wheel arches allow for the big tires. Inside, there is room for four adults. BMW designer Adrian van Hooydonk called the car "sporty, elegant and sophisticated."
Everything on the Concept CS could be translated into production, van Hooydonk said. Its low-slung shark-nose front end sits just 53.5 inches high. It could meet all pedestrian safety standards, van Hooydonk added. "This is a purpose-built car, but it shows where the brand could possibly go," he said. "Pedestrian safety standards will not impact our brand identity."
