According to Autozeitung.de, BMW is working on a new model, to be called M10, that will compete with the Audi R8 and the Porsche 911 and that is supposed to be released in 2010. The design of the M10 will be inspired by the CS Concept unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Also the German magazine reports that BMW does not want to build a central engine. Instead the M10 will feature FWD system. As about the engine, is not sure yet if BMW will use the same engine used in the M5/M6, a V10 with 550 hp, or the turbocharged version of the 4.0 liter V8 used in the M3. With this engine the M10 is a direct competition for the Audi R8 4,2 FSI.

In order to have better road performances, BMW will use carbon fiber construction. Combined with magnesium and aluminum, the weight of the M10 will be a sensational 1400 Kg.
