The production version of the BMW Space Functional Concept will be called either the V5 or V6, followed by a more compact BMW V3 model.
The estimated price is between $45,000-$55,000. This is not a traditional minivan with sliding doors, rather a tall wagon or as they call it "sports tourer". The future monovolume sport of the Bavarian house,is destined to rival with Mercedes R- Class.
The V5 is going to weigh more because it will be large (expect 4600-4800 lbs - the Merc is something like 4900+). The BMW V5 will be also a frightening competitor of all the currently available MPV models on the market such as the Chrysler Voyager or Renault Espace.
The V5 will be for those customers that prioritize maximizing space and driving dynamics over off road "sytle" but can’t cary their family into a 5-series or E320 wagon. It should handle better than X5, be lighter, and ultimately be safer than an X5.
The engine choices are the familiar 3.0 liter inline six, producing 255hp as well as 4.8 liter V8 giving off 362hp(the same engine used in the 7 Series).
A six speed automatic-gearbox version will be available, and later a V5 M-version.
