With the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed just around the corner, BMW->ke178 is announcing its lineup of vehicles for the British event. The Germans are set to display a handful of Bimmers, most of which will also make their public debut in the United Kingdom. BMW will hoon five sporty cars up the famous Goodwood Hill, beginning with the i8 sports car. The hybrid will be joined by the M5 30 Jahre Edition, the fastest production M5->ke2922 to date with 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque under the hood. The third vehicle to charge up the Hill and make its British debut is the X4 crossover.

Since no racing event is complete without the brand-new M4, the Germans are also showcasing a pair of two-door rockets, in both Coupe->ke141 and Convertible->ke144 guises. The drop-top will parade the course wearing wearing a few Individual parts. As for the Coupe, BMW says it is bringing a "special" model to England. How special? Stick around to find out.

Granted, the BMW M4 Coupe to be introduced at Goodwood is special, but we learned that it may not be as special as you may think. Don't expect some sort of beefed-up limited-edition or a track-prepped model, because BMW has different plans. Just like the Convertible version, the Coupe will showcase some of the latest visual tweaks coming from the company's Individual division. What's special about it is that the design was created by a number of BMW fans from Pistonheads who took part in a contest earlier this year.

The result should be pretty impressive though, as the Coupe sports a Tanzanite Blue paint job and an M Performance exterior consisting of exclusive bumpers and side sills. A full Merino leather interior replaces the regular cabin, adding an extra dash of luxury to the already opulent M4. The unique Coupe will be driven up the Hill by British racing driver and television host Tiff Needell, with two very lucky competition winners to hop in for a few laps.

Why It Matters

BMW is obviously using the Goodwood Festival of Speed to debut a batch of models in the United Kingdom. They might not be as spectacular as the McLaren P1 GTR or the new model coming from Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, but most of them have performance on their side and seem suited to take the hill-climb course in quick fashion. We would have preferred to see a race-ready M4 instead of a bespoke, Individual-crafted Coupe, but we're not complaining. Goodwood needs a bit of chutzpah to go with the enormous amount of race cars->ke148 and racing drivers.

BMW M4 Coupe

The BMW M4 debuted for the 2015 model year as a replacement for the M3 Coupe. The high-performance vehicle has been completely redesigned for the new generation, while losing a few pounds and gaining a new engine. Gone is the naturally aspirated V-8, now replaced with a 3.0-liter inline-six with TwinPower Turbo technology. The powerplant delivers 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, pushing the coupe to 60 mph from a standstill in only 3.9 seconds when using a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. The Coupe can also be equipped with a six-speed manual, in which case the 0-to-60 mph sprint drops to 4.1 seconds.
