The hybrids just keep coming. AutoBild is suggesting that BMW is working on an i100 Coupe Active Hybrid (rendered above) to compete against the likes of the Mercedes SLS E-Cell and Audi's E-tron vehicle. The plug-in hybrid i100 is rumored to have a three cylinder direct injection engine that will produce 165-185hp at the rear as well as two electric motors that will produce more than 100bhp. This power is eons away from the projected 526hp in the Mercedes SLS E-Cell, but is right around the horsepower provided with the Audi E-Tron concept. However, unlike their competition, the i100 will be a 2+2 as opposed to seating only two passengers.

Following the production of the i100 will be the BMW M100. This vehicle will be the M version of the i100 and will feature an inline six cylinder engine. The engine will more than likely be borrowed from the next generation M3->ke2366 model.

The BMW->ke178 i100 Coupe Active Hybrid will probably debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show with a production model beginning in 2013. BMW plans to produce 35,000 units priced at 100,000 EUROS each.

We'll keep you posted on any further development.
