After months of speculation, Cadillac->ke18 has finally confirmed it will roll out a range-topping, luxurious limousine->ke1203 to rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7 Series->ke323, and the Audi A8->ke1089. The news broke ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance->ke2839 in California, where Cadillac chief engineer Dave Leon told reporters the rear-wheel-drive sedan will arrive in late 2015, Bloomberg reports.

In addition, Leone revealed Cadillac is also planning to introduce a redesigned SRX SUV and confirmed the launch of the ATS-Vin 2015. "This is going to be a fantastic year for Cadillac," he said.

There's no word as to when the flagship Caddy will be unveiled, but recent reports have hinted toward a New York Auto Show->ke226 debut in April 2015. Both the luxury sedan and the revamped SRX will be among the first models to be launched with Johan de Nysschen, previously in charge of the Infiniti->ke36 brand, as president.

Why It Matters

Mostly known for large and luxurious vehicles, such as the Eldorado and the De Ville, Cadillac has lagged in that department since the latter was discontinued in 2005. Sure, the XTS has proudly carried the company's full-size flag since 2013, but Cadillac needs something bigger and better to compete against the big-boys from Germany. The new flagship might be able to do just that, provided it comes with an unprecedented amount of convenience and safety features, and a powerful V-8 engine.

Cadillac LTS

Reportedly dubbed LTS, the new Cadillac flagship sedan is expected to borrow certain styling cues from the Elmiraj Coupe Concept we saw at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The stunning coupe carries an awe-inspiring design inside and out. The body is highlighted by a huge front grille flanked by extremely thin, vertical headlamps, while the rear boasts a similar design with skinny taillights running from the C-pillar down toward the bumper. Aggressive and stylish at the same time, the Elmiraj is definitely a study Cadillac needs to consider while designing the LTS.

Drivetrain is still a mystery, but Cadillac is likely to opt for a twin-turbocharged, 4.5-liter, V-8 engine. A similar mill rated at 500 horsepower was introduced on the Elmiraj Coupe Concept in 2013.

Cadillac SRX

Launched in 2004 as a competitor to the popular Lexus RX, the Cadillac SRX is already in its second-generation. Initially sold with 2.8-liter and 3.0-liter, V-6 engines, the SRX is now powered by a larger, 3.6-liter V-6 rated at 308 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic, the unit enables the crossover to dash from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, making it quicker than most its competitors.

While its exterior isn't likely to win any beauty contests, the interior boasts plenty of convenience features and high-quality materials. Acres of leather and attractive color schemes can be had with the SRX, as well as Cadillac's brand-new CUE infotainment system. 2015 should see the SRX updated inside and out, hopefully with a more attractive shell to complement the company's current lineup.
