Usually when we announce delays or cancelations coming out of Detroit, it has to do with the ailing financial health of the Big Three. But the latest delay in the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible has nothing to do with problems in North America.
Remember that this is a global economic crisis, and the German manufacturer who was lined up to provide the convertible tops has now gone out of business. We were originally supposed to expect the drop top version of the Camaro ready for the spring/summer of 2011, but now that is pushed back at least six months.
In other less surprising news, the on-again/off-again rumors of the Camaro Z28 are now saying that the car is officially dead. The final nail in the Z28’s coffin is just as most people would suspect: there is no way to justify the cost in today’s economy. As much as we would have liked a 550+ hp Camaro, we all knew it would be pretty hard to sell it in the current market.
