Customizing a Rolls Royce Ghost; there’s an App for that

  news

We have online configurators coming out of our ears lately, but it shouldn’t surprise us that Rolls Royce has opted to extend the configuration process to a place that may be a little more convenient for some. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has announced a new iPhone and iPod touch application that will allow potential drivers to customize Rolls-Royce’s newest model; the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

With this new application, customers can choose from twelve standard paint finishes, three different wheel styles, and visible exhausts. They also have the option of a Silver Satin bonnet which is only available on the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Following the app to the inside of the car leaves the customer to choose from eight different leather colors and five veneer designs including Dark Wenge and Malabar. The finished products designed by potential drivers can also be saved in the app’s virtual garage.

In addition to customizing the Rolls-Royce Ghost, this application can also give the customer the vehicle’s specifications and direct them to the nearest Rolls-Royce dealership. If the potential driver is still not ready to make a final decision, the application comes with videos and images of the Rolls-Royce Ghost as the extra push needed to convince the potential driver to go out a buy one.

The best part about this application is that it is downloadable and FREE! All one has to do is hit up the app store and click install. We do have a complaint though; the application takes a long time to download compared to other applications, which is understandable considering the information that has to be downloaded. Other than that, the application is pretty self-explanatory and easy to use. There are obviously not a ton of different options to choose from, but we could say the same for some online configurators out there too.

Hit the jump for the press release.

Press Release

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced today that its first app for iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the App Store. The app allows potential customers and enthusiasts to configure their own Ghost, the new model from Rolls-Royce.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost App allows users to choose from many thousands of design combinations available to Ghost customers at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars dealerships. Available exterior options include twelve standard paint finishes, three different wheel styles, visible exhausts as well as a Silver Satin bonnet, an option exclusive to Rolls-Royce Ghost. The car’s interior can be specified in eight different leather colours and five veneer designs, including contemporary woods such as Dark Wenge and Malabar. After designing their ideal Ghost, users can save their designs in a virtual garage.

The new Ghost App also provides a gallery of Ghost images and films as well as a function to search for the nearest Rolls-Royce Motor Cars dealer. For users with an interest in the technical details of the car, the app features a specifications section.

The Rolls-Royce Ghost App is available now for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

It would be better if  Audi Konfigrutator used the same usage just like the Rolls Royce. Well, I think this one is cool and handy for the customer. I wonder where will I be using this application to design my own Roll Royce.

I find this application kind of interesting. The idea of customizing your own car is the coolest  thing. However, what if the possible customer is doubtful to his design or find it difficult to choose among the option, how will the company handle such situation?
