Detroit HUMMER, HUMMER, and the GM Foundation will provide a new 2006 HUMMER H3 to the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross to strengthen their emergency preparation and disaster response capability.

This vehicle is part of a committed 72 vehicle fleet that will include a combination of H1, H2 and H3 models. The first trucks were delivered last December to Red Cross chapters in areas hardest hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In addition to the vehicles, the GM Foundation is making cash contributions of $100,000 annually for six years.

Glen Hendricks, director of emergency services for the Southeastern Michigan Chapter, will be on hand at Detroit HUMMER in Southfield, Mich. to take delivery of their Chapter's new HUMMER H3 on May 24, 2006.

"The GM Foundation and HUMMER are pleased to put these capable HUMMER vehicles in the hands of the Red Cross chapters that need them most," said Rod Gillum, GM vice president Corporate Responsibility and Diversity and Chairman, GM Foundation. "Through our long-term partnership with the American Red Cross, we believe that HUMMERs like these will give Red Cross community volunteers better mobility when and where they need it."

"The American Red Cross has led the effort to help communities prevent, prepare for, and respond to disasters for 100 years. Locally, the Southeastern Michigan Chapter responds to an average of four home fires per day, in addition to offering emergency services and mass care to victims of local disasters," said Hendricks. "The Red Cross would like to thank HUMMER and the GM Foundation for their generous support of our humanitarian mission."

To help make it easier for Red Cross volunteers, each donated H2 and H3 will be equipped with one year of complimentary OnStar services, including hands-free calling minutes and OnStar's "Directions and Connections" plan. It provides drivers with driving directions, and help finding hotels, gas, and other destinations. It also includes air bag deployment notification to OnStar advisors, remote vehicle diagnostics, remote door unlock and other emergency help. The donated vehicles will also include Major Guard Protection extended service coverage.
