If you’re a fan of outrageously overpowered supercars,->ke177 then 2016 is a pretty great time to be alive. At no other point in history has so much velocity been so readily available, with a huge breadth of makes, models, and price points tempting those with an itch for ultimate speed. But actually finding the upper limits of these machines takes a racetrack, preferably one with high banks and long straights – kinda like Florida’s Daytona International Speedway. Best known for the Daytona 500, this prestigious motorsport mecca recently played host to Drive, which put the spurs to an Audi R8 V10 Plus to find what it can do when foot meets floor.

This time around, the hot lap takes place on Daytona’s 3.81-mile 24-hour road course configuration, rather than the 2.5-mile tri-oval, which means top speed isn’t quite as high as it could be. Still, with a solid launch out of the “Bus Stop” chicane, the R8->ke1440 manages to peak at 180 mph past the grandstand.

That’s mighty impressive for any passenger car, let alone something as streetable and easy to drive as the Audi.->ke14 Of course, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the specs – mounted in the middle is a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V-10 good for 610 horsepower, which hits the pavement through a quattro AWD system and can propel the two-seater to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. And given the right stretch of pavement, 205 mph is possible at the top end.

Sounds like a new goal to me.
