Episode 9 of Corvette Racing’s "Track to Street" Series

Lost in the spectacle of racing series’, like Formula One and NASCAR, is one of the most storied and most difficult events in the auto racing calendar: endurance racing.

Requiring a combination of unbridled physical and mental conditioning, endurance racing takes more than just natural talent and top-level driving skills to succeed, and knowing how to take advantage of the level of preparation needed for endurance racing is already half the battle won.

In the latest episode of Corvette Racing’s Track to Street series, two members of the Corvette Racing Team discuss the tedious work that goes in preparing for long distance races. For both Oliver Gavin, the driver of the no. 4 Corvette, and Ken Flory, chief engineer of the no.3 Corvette, it’s one thing to be able to participate in one, but it’s a completely different ball game to be competitive in these types of races; ones that stretch your physical and mental strength to the absolute limit.

For both Gavin and Flory, accomplished marathon runners in their own right, the experiences they’ve learned in both competitive environments have allowed the pair to become more prepared in the competitive setting both endurance racing and long distance running commonly share. It’s these shared experiences – the ability to focus on the task at hand despite the taxing an exhausting nature of these two sports - that has given both Gavin and Flory, and the entire Corvette Racing Team for that matter, the know-how to not only infuse their knowledge and experiences on the team, but more importantly, to be able to compete at a high level in both sports.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that the current "GM 5.5L V8" (as listed on the CR site) is an entirely new and different block, and likely the one that will end up in the next road going Corvette.

the C6.R always was one of my favorite race car in video games like gran Turismo and Forza it’s often fun to drive like in reality I’m sure, don’t own one in real life sadly but always give a thumb up to those I see in traffic, saw a Z06 Monday and he gave it a bit of throttle just for me, wow I love that Corvette sound.

Not all cars that go into production do this, and most to not have the success the Corvette team has had on the track.

That’s correct. The 5.5L is not from Katech. If I recall correctly, neither was the engine (6.0L?) that was used in the second half of 2009 in the GT2 C6.R.

Interestingly enough you equate your fellow mans love for Americas finest sports car(it is while i prefer the Viper) to the stupid concept of him choosing the car just because he theoretically has a small Penis. V6s_Stink, I’m pretty sure you already know it, but you’re a tool. I could go on about what makes the regular Z06 such a good, solid, fast car but with an ignoramus like yourself,it will be a waste of effort.
