Fisker will add smaller electric car in 2010


The electric vehicle builder Fisker already has the lithium-ion powered Karma sedan and soon to be Karma Sunset convertible . But for 2010 the Tesla Motors competitor would like to offer something different, a more compact plug-in vehicle.

"We’re first doing the four-door and then we’re doing the convertible and then we’re planning some third derivative off the Karma platform. Then we’re planning a high-volume vehicle for a lower price. We’ve applied for a Department of Energy grant. If that loan comes through, we’ll have this vehicle on the road in 29 months" said Fisker himself.

Good to see the Karma coming out as good or better than the original prototype.

Still think GM-Cadillac should have partnered with Fisker and resurrected the Cunningham brand.

well it’s front air intake looks awe full, it looks like a teasing fish.

I hope the compact car will prove more effcient than the Prius

The EV concern is really alarming for one reason that most powerplant runs in coal and coal emit more CO2 plus we know electric companies ready to forge higher cost to electric consumption anytime

I hope Fisker will be able to pull out a good market otherwise they will get dragged with loans.

EV or a combination of EV and Alternative Fuel, Fisker will come out with a new line up and hopefully it would work great like their sports cars

This is not to put down EV, as such that it will be part of car developments but the auto industry must also develop power plant with renewable resources otherwise things might get worst than our environmental condition today.

I read that WWF study and it says an electric car with a lithium ion battery powered by electricity from an old coal power plant could emit more than 200g of carbon dioxide per km, compared with current average gasoline car of 160g of carbon dioxide per km in Europe, according to the study. The European Union goal for 2020 is 95g of carbon dioxide per km. I am a bit surprised.

Coal emmits more carbon that gasoline and the irony is that you don’t need a lot more electricity for electric cars but the problem is that if they cause these peaks ( prices based on demand and the C02 emission from coal powerplants, we would have to have power plants that would be ready to start as the massive charging starts. So I am not ourely supportive of EV cars as all alternative to fuel gas

A worst-case scenario would be that the electric cars would run on electricity from coal instead of from renewable sources. That could be the case when extra electricity is needed to charge the plug-in cars in the early evening. That’s when commuters could significantly add to the electricity demand at a time of day when people are returning home and electricity use is already peaking.

This one more point coming from WWF German study.The carbon dioxide emission reductions from 1 million electrical vehicles in Germany’s transportation sector would be only 1 percent, according to the study, and overall national carbon dioxide emissions would only be cut by 0.1 percent. Acoording to Raddatz that is not a very big significant for the reason that it is not going to help Germany out of the transportation emission mess.

Michelle’s post got me thinking. Because if the source of electricity still comes from the non-renewable energy such as burning of fossil fuels, then the invention of "green cars" would be pointless.

It could be possible that this car will be tag as a green car because it uses electricity to run. But the question is, how much are they consuming? And what is the source of the energy that supplies the electricity to the car? Is it really a "green car?"

Who ever said that being green is not cool? Just look at this beauty and you’ll know what I mean.

I’ve been seeing new cars everyday and I can’t help but be amazed everytime I see one. Makes me want to buy my own one someday.

If Fisker will make it...then that will be an added line up for thier very small marketing arm.

Well, the karma looks happy. I hope the compact karma, will it a roadster, maybe, a sporty mini perhaps, a hot hatch wagon like Prius, I hope Fisker can catch up with Tesla’s marketing plan.

I just hope Fisker will not get fisked with their plans and the loans that might pull themdown in the bankrupcy drain once their line fail to set a lasting market impression.
