Ford has some big plans for the next generation Focus, a car that is currently enjoyed by everyone from WRC enthusiasts in England to South American grandmothers looking for a fun little grocery getter. Sitting at the top of the Focus food chain is the almighty RS version with its wide arches and 300 HP turbocharged five cylinder engine straight from the factory, however aftermarket tuners like McChip feel that they can make the flagship Focus even better.

Leaving the Focus RS’s rally bred lines alone, the German computer specialists at McChip DKR are currently offering two different levels of increased performance for the Focus RS. The first is a simple ECU re flash that increases air pressure from the turbo and then adds tells the injectors to squirt just the right amount of fuel in order to keep everything running smoothly. The Stage 1 kit raises the engine’s output up to 345 HP and 384 lb-ft of torque while the RS’s top speed goes up to 168 MPH. If you are a little bit more daring, McChip offers their Stage 2 kit that comes with a similar modified ECU and then adds a new intercooler and free flowing exhaust system. This is good for a total of 401 HP and 451 lb-ft of torque out of the turbo Focus that is now able to do up to 172 MPH, given that there is enough room in front of it.

Quick as a bird and dressed with sportive elegance - these are the strengths of new Ford Focus RS. But in case of Mcchip-dkr still there is another characteristic to add: it is vigorous like a purebred sports car!

The well-known software tuner from Salzgitter/Germany has perfectly attuned the performance to the vehicle. The result is only uncompromising fun from driving but also full suitability for daily use. The engine, completely overhauled by Mcchip-dkr, reaches enormous 401 hp.

Certainly tuned by Mcchip-dkr Focus RS is an outstanding vehicle in any situation. Mcchip offers two power upratings at once. Power stage 1 transforms serial 305 hp (440 Nm) into comfortable 345 hp with no less than 520 Nm. Power stage 1 consists „only" in software optimization made by Mcchip-dkr, available for 799 Euro, and your car will easily reach the speed of 271 km/h.

However it is power stage 2 for 4,499 Euro that transforms Focus RS into a whole-blood athlete. Power stage 2 gives the car even 401 hp. That is enough to accelerate RS up to 278 km/h without any problems. In addition to that the torque equals to 612 Nm. That means powerful pulling and dynamic drive. The „big" power stage consists in the enhanced intercooler and sports exhaust system, modified inlet manifold incl. tubes, special sparking plugs as well as world famous and in-house engine electronics.

Self-confident and fast - that is the look of the recent creation by Mcchip-dkr, already available.

I prefer VW Scirocco R or Renault Megane with Cup chassis over Focus RS. They are better cars, more practical on daily basis and have understated looks which I think goes well in today’s society. These are findings & opinions coming from British and German press.

I will agree on you that as of the moment, Focus RS reigns as the number 1 for hatchback cars but I have a feeling that Honda has an ace concept that can beat the Focus RS. Just a rumor on the net but it’s possible for them to create great concept, you know it’s a Japanese car brand.

That’s quite amazing that the stage two of that package can bring up the power to 25% on a Focus. I think Focus RS needs that to upstage the car on its level that I can assure you that the power is in 340-380hp for what I’ve heard. What’s competitive on this car is the price so if you will avail this package it will be worth it and all I know is for a Mcchip packages, it’s not that expensive.
