There are cars that are blinged-up and there are cars that are absolutely, totally, incredibly blinged-up. Care to venture a guess where this McLaren SLR falls?
While you struggle to comprehend the absurdity of this shiny piece of metal, we’re going to give you all the details. This is the McLaren SLR, a car that has been given a gold-plated finish that weighs over 5kg and is adorned by over 600 rubies with some measuring over 35mm in diameter. And here we thought cars like these only came in scale models.
The car that comes with more jewelry than Mr. T is the work of Suisse designer Ueli Anliker and is scheduled to make an appearance at the Dortmund MY CAR tuning event today at Dortmund, Germany where it is expected to be the show’s crown jewel – no pun intended. Anliker specializes in jewelry-encrusting vehicles with this latest project taking over 30,000 man-hours to finish. We don’t know if the car is going to be for sale, but insurers have estimated the car – with all that gold and rubies – to be worth somewhere around $5.2 million.
If this car does end up being for sale, we don’t know anybody who’d be willing to fork over that much money for one car, especially one that’s going to attract quite a lot of attention - and that’s putting it lightly.
